Title: can I tune a 300hp ka24et with standard ecu? or with antrx chip? need help.
Post by: love_for_trx on Aug 9, 2013, 11:11PM
Hey guys. Iv just bought a 300hp ka24et pintara. Its been rebuilt and is fresh. How ever it runs like dog balls untill u get it onto boost.it hasnt been tuned or anything but cant understand how its running with all the work on it lol. Like it acually runs and drives but previous owner says the ecu is standard.  So Im wondering if I can somehow chip the ecu to be tunable or get a flash or something I can do to tune it. Any info would be awesome.
Cheers
Anthony

Chips are old school technology now. Before standalone ECU's or piggy backs were in, chipping was done. I am not sure if the U12 ECU can use and interface for Nistune? If not then you will have to get an aftermarket ECU. Think of a factory ECU like this. It is a set calculator that is not programmable. Your combustion cycle and fuel and ignition with a turbo engine will be completely different to what is in that ECU. I'd say chuck it and get a stand alone. Depends on your price and your preference.

Noss on the forums still tunes with chips for the u12 ecus.

In saying that, if Nistune is available, get it. It's fantastic and well worth the money.

Wrong. Factory ecu remapped will do the job no problem. Nistune is available for U12 KA's, I currently use the emulator license for my black U12.

I don't disagree with a factory ecu being remapped through Nistune or if a chip could possibly do it (probably not that well) that two but without the software to interface the factory ECU is set. Guess there is your answer. The factory ECU for the U12 can be tuned with Nistune.

Also should be noted that it depends on what sensors are still in the car. If it doesn't have MAP or MAF sensor then a factory ECU may not allow for you to tune say from the TPS only. However as you have a KA24 in their you probably still have all the factory sensors. I don't have them all in my car.

SSS: What variables of control does Nistune allow for the U12 ECU's? Does it include complete control of fuel and map tables as well as ancillaries. Not a bad option if you retain all stock sensors.

Primary and secondary fuel and ignition tables, VQ map (for MAF changes), injector sizing and injector compensation tables, injector pulsewidth limits, Coolant / Air Temp compensation tables, thermo fan switching.
That is all I can think of off the top of my head, there is more, but most of it is not required to be changed.

By all means going to something like an AEM EMS is a far more tunable option, but as far as legality and the "getting the job done" factor goes, a reprogrammed stock ecu can't be beat.

Thanks guys for all ur answers. Has helped heaps. Yeah I would rather buy a full programable computer. And would allow for a better tune aswell. as the car stands its got a standard computer with standard sensors. Iv kept it on 7psi. Its got a Hi flowed t4 turbo.I fixed pretty much everything that was making it run crap. Runs really good acually. besides computer, injectors and tune. Spent nearly $2000 on just the engine bay to keep it reliable, nice and clean. The cars mint. All interior is great. Id show u some pics but have no clue how to post them on here lol. Cheers heaps guys
