multi core radiators??
« on: Aug 29, 2009, 07:32PM »
been looking around at aluminum radiators for awhile now ,mainly 44mm and i came across duel and even quad core radiators.   apart from more water getting around whats the advantage. does anyone have any experience with them they are about 62mm which probably wont fit anyway and 2 in/out.

just get a single core 40mm thick one, doubt you'll need anything bigger than that.

i got one made up for my car and it made a huge difference, temp held down better and the thermo fans werent kicking in anywhere near as much as with the crappy factory rad.
and you'll be looking at around 700 for a custom job

best of luck with it

Pedro, I have a thread on here somewhere about the aluminium radiator I purchased. It was to suit a wrx or impreza but had nearly exactly the same spots where the thermo's bolt up and the same inlet/outlet position. By memory it cost me around $200 delivered.

I've got one of these babys to go into my car. Although I've relocated my fans so that's not a problem for me.

some radiators are too thick and will not allow air to flow though,
they need alot of speed (race track) to work.
sometimes the fans won't do the job even.

argh, ::) i hope this isn't an issue as i just bought a 52mm duel core. :-\
cost me 200 also, from ASI which i thought was pretty good and it is for an sr so i am hoping fans are a good fit, they said they would be a direct fit and will reduce temps buy at least 30%. the 42 was the same price so..i went for that. i hope the duel core doesn't cause the air flow issue you mentioned, i do tend to get a bit of air in there though :-\ .hopefully she's all good.

I can't remember mate, did this fit up just fine?  I'm looking to grab a better rad for my u12 attesa as well.  Dozer, do you have any recommendations mate?

stock works fine if it is clean, there are a few good Japanese brands that appear stock aswell.
a mate had a "plastic tanked" rad in his s15 and swapped it for a big alloy one and it was crap,
turned out the plastic fantastic was a flash jap one anyway. "yashio japan" is the brand.
looks like they do alot of silvia parts.

i and a few guys i race all run stock radiators as they do work well, dose not matter what radiator
you run the thermostat controls the actual engine coolant temp with coolant flow so change that first it is cheaper and if you have a prang replacing the alloy radiator could be a pain.
if temps are still a problem then look to your radiator or better yet an oil cooler.

i am doing the thermostat also when i throw in the radiator. i have been thinking about an oil cooler, i figure it has to be a good thing. but thats something to look at later.

When I had my 180sx I had a very fat radiator and a high-flow thermostat and it actually ran too cold. If I didn't sell the car I would have changed it cos it'd take aaages to warm up.

yeah when my tanks blew coz of extra pressure from the new nismo rad cap i went with a custom made job, all the mounts matched up perfectly and the fans mounted up with the same fan cowling. no probs and the flow of air with and without the fans on was massive. even with the cooler in front of it.

tested it out with a low span fan in front of the car and it was better than expected. just make sure you open up as much room in front of the rad as possible and put something there to channel the air out efficiently
