oil leaks- mechanic says $450-$1000
« on: Sep 17, 2008, 06:17PM »
orrite big problem here, there was a few bits of oil comin out from under the car (up near the motor) so i took it to the local mechanic, he says if i keep running it the way it is the problem will get worse and will just screw the car up more.
I been quote between $450 and 1 grand to get it fixed, if this part that is stuffed hasnt done any more damage i will only have to replace that ($450) but if it has worn away at another part it will be another 500 on top ($1000)
i'll find out what parts he was talking about as my grandpa was the one who took the car today and had no idea what the mechanic was talking about, if any of you have any idea of what it could be feel free to list them, i'll get back to you soon about what the mechanic thinks it is :-\

More than likely its the rear main seal... costs like $5-$15 depending for the seal but to get to it you bascially have to drop the gear box or take motor out.

Hence the reason everytime you change your clutch you change that.

Could be sump plug as well, easy fix, unbolt, rebolt new one.
Ill fight you. May even throw a bar of soap your way. Maybe a few wax strips and some clip on brembo brake calipers for your fooly sic civic.
