Can you guys please comment on this re-build kit
« on: Mar 28, 2008, 09:59PM »
Hello all.

Was dabbling into the thought of fully rebuilding my engine on the cheap and was doing a quick search on some parts and came across this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370035320546&_trksid=p2759.l1259

Is that a good price for all this stuff?
Would the quality be worth getting?
Is all the stuff needed?
Would it be cheaper and easier to source it all from Aus?

Just some general questions like that. I have 2-3 weeks a full garage and a girlfriends dad as a mechanic.

Oil pump won't work with fwd KA's (our oil pump is inside the timing case, not external like that one)
Water pump, unsure.

Bearings you could probably use and have the crank ground to suit, but anticipate on buying bearings.

rest looks ok, timing chain and gaskets should work ok.

The rocket cover gasket will not work as our distributors stick out the back of the engine.
I'd call some engine rebuilding places and get some quotes, but sine 95% of the things should work you will probably find that it is a good deal.

pm them asking if they have a stanza kit & how much without the oil pump, you'll prob save about $30

the plenum collector gasket (between the 2 halves) & the idle control gaskets are different between aus & us models, the rest are 100% same as ours

it cost me $45 to send a timing chain over from the US so expect to pay around $70 for postage for the engine kit

my 2 cents
NO! it's NOT a fucking SR20!!
