r31? pintara rear brakes
« on: Mar 6, 2008, 02:50PM »
hi, new comer here. I just paid $100 for a 1989 Pintara wagon. My problem is that the brake pedal goes 3/4ths of the way to the floor and the thing has absolutely no rear brakes.
I hit the brakes gently and the fronts locked up while the rear of the car tried to come around to say hello. Any usefull suggestions would be appreciated.

First thing would be to bleed the brakes.

If there is air in the lines then your not going to have rear brakes. If work has been done on them and they havnt been bled that would be the cause of no rear brakes.

Bleed them and see if it fixes your problem. If not we'll try and find out what could be causing it to happen. But start with the basics first.

Sounds like all 4 are working if the back stepped out. Locked up rear brakes will make you spin out.

Hi all, thanks for your replies. I think that there is a little misunderstanding. my rear brakes are not working at all. they are not locking up, the front ones are, the front of the car wants to stop but the rear wants to keep going. I have only a quarter of my brake pedal travel. Pedal almost goes to the floor and is a bit spongy. Looking at them today, will get back for more advice if it beats me. thanks again
