Door Light Flickering & Power Windows Problem
« on: Feb 8, 2008, 08:45AM »
Ok it's finally starting to shit me to tears. Ever since i bought my bluey #2, the door light on the dash has been flickering as i drive. I have noticed it seems to do it more when i'm braking. I'm assuming i've got an earthing problem somewhere, but where the hell would i start to look for it?

Also, my power windows have stopped working from the driver's control. I can use the driver's window fine with the control, but cannot put the passenger windows up or down, using the driver's control. However, the individual controls work perfectly.

Door light, does your interior light turn on too? First thing I would check would be the switches for all the doors, you should be able to find the faulty one and replace that and then it should be all good.

Power windows control is a bit weird, my first thought was the button to lock the windows may be broken locked, but if they work from the individual controls i cant see how that is the case....

Yeah the interior light turns on too when it's on "door", but i just leave it in the "off" position. I have checked all the door switches and can't find anything wrong with them.
It does work very very rarely. I put the control from my first niz in and it worked fine for a while, but all of a sudden it's stopped working again. I pulled the door trim off and had a look, but couldn't really see anything that might be causing it. At the same time i really didn't know how to test it either....

Can you take out the switches for the doors, and just look at the condition of them. When the door is shut the piston is pushed in and the ground connection is not made. One of them might be making contact even if its being pushed in.

Sounds like a door isn't pushing on a door switch hard enough.

Are the rubber boots over the switches in good nick?

Try pushing the doors open from inside with them closed and see if you can make the light come on.

Power windows could be a problem in the driver's door switches or wiring.

the same thing happened to mine for a while, the drivers door had been used so many times that the metal bit it latches onto had a slight indent in it and the door did not close 100% of the way. There was still about a half a milimeter gap. so i took off the metal piece and turned it upside down, and now it works again, should be fine for another 14 years.
