New brake rotor options....
« on: May 12, 2007, 03:06PM »
Hey there,

MY 95 SSS's brakes are basically rooted. They pulse a lot when stopping from any decent speed, which makes me think they're warped to all hell.

So I want/need new rotors. I dropped into autoone today, and the spare parts dude kindly informed me that DBA standards are $180 a corner, and slotteds are $290  :o :o :o

That seems pretty excessive to me. So what are my other options? Get some OEM brakes? Get some off a wrecked 'bird? Get them shipped from the US?

Thanks fellas.

Try RDA brakes. They have a webpage:
www.rdabrakes.com.au
They will probably be cheaper? I haven't used them myself, but i have heard good things...

Hey I have a set of front rotors from a JDM SSS Attesa if you're interested.  If you have the AU SSS then I would suggest the wreckers for a set.  Unless of course you wish to upgrade later down the track, I would then try for the upgraded slotted or cross drilled rotors.

you cant just get larger rotors. u have to get the rotor that match the calipers. so unless u do a caliper upgrade there arent any 'options'  just different brands in the same size

Hmm, maybe he was accidentally giving me prices for DBA4000 rotors. If they're $100 each, I'll get two fronts and some new pads next time I have some spare cash :)

Mine were the same size.  I just got the cross-drilled slotted DBA953 rotors.  They seem to work very well.  They require a bit of heat at first for quick response but they brake very good.  $100 sounds extremely cheap for slotted DBA rotors especially for our cars.  Chances are this is a starting from price and for shelf stock items.  Our rotors are never on shelf and require ordering.

On another note thought I'm considering changing my rotors back to stock while I shop for larger brakes.  If anybody is interested in my cross-drilled slotted rotors let me know.  Looking for about $250 for the pair.  Been used for about 6 months.
