Muffler for U13
« on: Oct 26, 2006, 09:44PM »
I've finally pulled my finger out and ripped off the awful cannon off the bluey, due to the reasonating inside the car and constant droning. I have had it replaced with a sports muffler with a tip, but it sounds even worse. It is really raspy and horrible. I rang the place where i got the muffler put on, and they are going to replace it with another sports muffler. Can anyone suggest any ideas for a muffler that will sound better??? I have 2.25" mandrel bent exhaust from extractors, with a resinator already and want something that sounds great but not overly loud. The guy at the exhaust place reckons i won't be able to get away from the raspiness due to the KA's being DOHC. (Whether or not this is true is beyond me). I don't want to spend too much as the bluey though as it will soon become my daily driver as i upgrade to bigger and better...

Yea you cant get away from the raspyness with straight thru mufflers on the KA's. Unless you go for a 2inch straight thru muff but then you are loosing power and its just shit.

Like i had on my car before the R33. That thing had no raspiness, and when i floored it it just hummed. Altho at 3000rpm was very loud, so cruising down the motorway was a pain.

I would try the R33, i mean you cant get much worse then what you have, if the exhaust shops did the flanges on the rear muff at the same place we might be able to swap for a little while and you can see whether you like it or not.

But its not going to be cheap..

I got mine done for $225 for piping from extractors and payd $60 for the R33 muff.

You just gotta ask around for a good deal

when u say sports muffler what exactly is it?

the muffler that will give u nice sound but wont affect performance is some sort of straight through OVAL muffler. i have a trust oval muffler and its MASSIVE. but still a bit loud. any straight through will give u a bit more noise

i was looking into magnaflow mufflers before i found the one i got now. they are bit pricey but worth it.

Prices will vary for a R33 muffler. Some places will give it to you for next to nothing whereas other places will try and charge you the earth for one.
Pipework for it is about $150, give or take depending where you go.
