5 stud conversion
« on: Sep 5, 2006, 09:28PM »
Seeing as though nissan liked to share parts with the skylines/ceffy's etc... will a 5 stud conversion that is meant for a  s13/a31/c33 be able to fit on a u12(bluebird more likely)?

those models were all 4 stud to my knowledge. so could someone please shed some more light into this??

That seems very very possible. Because s13 stud pattern is the same you would think that the spacers and stud conveter things would hey....good thinking...

If s13 has the same setup, 5 stud kits are everywhere then.

RWD vs FWD could pose a problem.

Mmm i dunno? You would think as long as the stud pattern is correct it shoudln't matter if the car is fwd or rwd? But there is a huge possibility i am wrong  ;D

come again?  ???

ive seen 5 stud hubs that are a bolt on job for the s13/a31/c33, so if they are suitable for u12's, wouldnt that just be a simple swap over??

i have sent an email to the place who's selling em, i think was just jap in nsw, but they havent replied back yet.

The front hubs on a FWD have splines that the driveshafts key into. The replacement hubs would need the same splines on them.

simple answer is you would have to use rear s13 5 stud hubs all round. and then you'd only be able to use them if the splines for the drive shafts are the same.

i have been looking into this but havent had a chance to get a look at a set of the hubs in question

Yep, I'v tried it, you just use the entire front and rear cradle (struts, hub assembly, rotors, calipers, axle etc) and it bolts strait up.  You don't need to use the control arms as the u12 ones are the same - onley the inner section that the sway bar bolts up to is different on the Maxima, so you can just change it over or just keep your existing u12 swaybar, but from memory - the rear assembly will need to be changed.

I am using S13 struts with GTR breaks n rotors in my u12, its a lot of customization and a lot of money. J30 Maxima parts will save you the time and money.

doesnt really help with the rear suspension on an AWD like mine, lots of things are very different, i am just getting a set of custom hubs made up by a friend of mine now, he is a boiler maker/mechanic so he is making them up good :) so that will rectify things for an AWD but the FWD models what you are saying will work no worries by the sounds of it

Not unless you want rims that only come in 5-stud versions.

well to me doing a 5 stud conversion is good because it means bigger rotors, brake is better, better looking rims(most of the good looking rims are 5 studs), and it gives me a project to do on my stanza. i done the motor, the tranny, custom intake, the car is fast, so i want rear disc for better braking, so thats when i saw that the maxima and stanza stuff fit each other, so i was ( can i convert 4-stud to 5-stud?) came to be that i can. the cost i dont mind, because i work at a part store, and i get discounts, but remember if it was for the cost nobody would do anything on their cars, we do it because we wanna brag that we did something to our car or be better than someone else.

so it's worth it  ;D

I am forced to post and admit that this is sound reasoning, because, well, it is.  I need to think like this more.

the reason i am going 5 stud is for the simple reason that with bigger than standard U12 brakes, ie: gtr brembos. then the much larger selection of different offset wheels makes it alot easier to match wheels to the combination.

just take a look at what is available for 4 studed cars with big brakes with an offset of +40 and you start to see that there is less than 5 wheels available to fit and they are all bloody hgard to get or arent made anymore, SSS had a bitch of a time to get his 4 pots to clear wheels.....

a simple mod to fix a pain in the ass problem

Would this be a worthwhile investement for a project car? Im very keen to do a brake and suspension upgrade during the process so if this is worth it then ill look at doing this.

Although it will mean new wheels for me....hrm what to do.

Digging up an oldie...

Has anyone done a 5 stud conversion on the rear?
or is anyone positive about what parts needed to do it?

Nope. I've been considering it for the black car; i need to pick up a set of maxima J30 front spindles and compare them to the U12's.

I assume since J30 front wheel bearings are apparently the same as a U12, the hubs would fit on as well.
