Title: my pintara, is it worth fixing? need advice please!
Post by: pintochic on May 9, 2016, 06:18PM
Hi
So i have my beloved pinto its in pretty good nick but it blew a valve in cylinder 2 and mechanic reckons the rings are worn and thats why the sparkies are all glugged up even tho they are new.. its not blowing any smoke tho...
So i was quoted ,$1800-2000 to repair that motor.
Or find a second hand one and put it in for approx $1000...
I have 9 months rego left on it
I just got all the suspension bushes and boots done and new disc rotors and pads, pretty new tyres, exhaust fixed

I dont know what the best option is
Currently looking for a remanufactured cylinder head
Is it worth trying to find a new ca20e to put in?.

Any advice plz would be great. :)))

Definitely do not repair the current motor. If you fix the top end the bottom end will fail shortly after. If you think everything else on the car will last a couple of years then I would be dropping a second hand motor in it.
I take it the $1000 to drop in a second hand motor includes the motor, parts and installation.

Hi Dannymanno thanks for your advice.
Na the 1000 was just labour alone without engine or parts.
Assuming he is 100buks an hour, 10 hours to put a motor in..really?
I got it home today at least. Only had a few hundred metres to drive but she wouldnt go faster than 15ks lol poor pinny
Neways guess ill see if i can find something..
