Title: Shifter Return Spring on the TRX
Post by: amirite on Apr 14, 2015, 04:52PM
Does anyone happen to know the dimensions of the shifter return spring (the spring that goes below the gear stick), because the dealership no longer sells them and I am going to have to purchase just a spring with similar dimensions.

I have found the spring tension to be a bit 'soft' and not really providing a lot of tension.  The other thing I have noted is that spring occasionally falls off the gear stick and just 'hangs in the breeze' under the car.

I suspect the spring on the car is not original or genuine - but I went to a spring smith and paid $5 for a spring with larger diameter wire and providing a bit more tension.  I have also made the ends of the spring opening smaller to stop the spring coming off.

I will measure up the old spring tonight and post the dimensions so that you might be able to source something after-market.

The spring that was on the car is a tension spring with a loop at each end.  The loops are on the same plane (i.e. not 90 degrees offset or anything) and the loop openings are mirror imaged  - i.e. both open toward each other on the same side of the spring - and not one opening on the top, one on the bottom etc.

Overall length (including the mounting loops) the spring is 44mm.  The spring part itself is 22mm long and has 16 coils.  The wire diameter is 1.3mm.

Overall outside diameter of the spring is 14.5mm.

The mounting loops are 12mm outside diameter and come around in an arc of 270 degrees.

Sorry cant upload a picture to show you.
