Hey all,
I've just started bench pressing at the gym. I think the weight I'm pressing is too low though, can anyone else let me know what they are pressing?
Today I did 20kg x 8, 25kg x 8 and then 30kg x 5. I weigh ~68kg. I don't have a spotter so I don't know if I'm worried about dropping the weight on my head ::)
-
i dont understand..
when you first start training it's obvious that your strength is fuck all..for example
when i first trained i couldn't do 17kg incline dumbell press without a spot, months later im pressing 50kg each arm.
just make yourself struggle keeping your form right and you will see strength gains soon.

I know that I can't be expected to bench 100kg. I have been training at the gym for a while.
I'm just asking people what they can bench, what they weigh etc.
-
i seriously think this is stupid
"how much can you bench" is a cult saying to gauge someone's strength when it's clearly not.
i havn't done flat bench in a while, but last time i was doing about 90kg in total and i weigh around 90 myself, but it's not the point..
people can have favourite exercises, like incline dumbell press for me, i HATE flat bench, i'd rather do smith machine flat.
how long u been training for boss ?
-
Lol... I benched a huge ::) 45kg last time I tried at my mates place. I weighed 75kg then.
-
last time i was doin more weight training, i could comfortably do ~55-60kgs (12 reps; 3 sets)
now cant be assed goin to gym anymore and rather go out and ride or dive
-
Back when i used to go to the gym alot i used to do 3*12 on 80 kilos (weighing 65 at the time)
now i do 3*12 on 75 and i weigh about 62. and yes its all in kilos.
Max bench is whatever you can do three reps of (house rules) and my max that i can do three of is 100, used to be 115.
-
you should be able to improve that pretty quickly.
i lifted my first weight about 2 yrs ago from what i remember it was about 30kg and i weighed about 70kg
i now go to the gym approx once a week and am lifting 1 set of 100kg at 8 reps and then 2 sets of 90kg at 10 reps.
it just develops over time, i dont actually go to the gym just to lift weights or improve my strength, i mainly go to lose weight in the rpm class, treadmill ect. >:(
im 18 and weigh 92kg :o
-
how tall are you xxxx ?
-
at the moment i do 3 sets of 12 reps at 75kg....but as chris said, how much you can bench press doesnt mean alot.
Im 19...6'2 and weigh 110kg
-
Ill check the Gym next time i bench, cant remember what machine it is but i do a circuit, and they are numbered in order, not by name ::)
Im 17 and weigh ~90 off season, ~85 during the season. haha. Im not that tall either.

awww, so close buddy :P.
ive learnt that i cant bench because of the absurd strength differences in my right to left arm because of my work, so i end up pushing the right side through the roof while my left sits on my shoulder

Use Dumbells then, they'll help get your sides balanced up!

I dont know about bench press any more but i replaced a falcon clutch by lowering the gearbox onto my chest.
Putting it back was the fun part, slide it onto your chest , use arms and legs to lift into place, hope to hell the bitch slots in first go, use knees and one arm to hold while you swear at the rear cross member bolts.
Fantastic work out can hardly lift your arms the next day, but kind of difficult to do on a daily basis.

Seriously mate you come up with some of the most Random things ever...lol ;D
-
When i was at my peak at the gym before my travels i was benching 70kg 3 sets of 8, i was 90kg so i was happpy with that but i was doing some hard core training then tho lol
-
hey im new and my names matt, LOVE going to the gym
6' 4"
105kgs
17
i do a warm up of 3 sets of 10 reps at 40kg to get the joints moving freely
then step it up to 3/4 sets of 10-12 reps at 50-60kg
then if my energy permits i go for a power set at 80-90 for as many reps as i can handle
not much weight but getting there
-
My monday chest workout now consists of:
warmup 60kg x12 - 1 set.
80 kg x10
100 kg x10
110 kg usually about 7-9 reps (or maximum effort)
120 kg usually about 4-5 reps (or max effort)
130 kg 4 reps.
Then I drop set from 110 kg, to 100, 80, 60, 50, then 20.. doing max reps at each weight.. usually that's about 5 or so reps.. at 20 kg, I get out about 25-30 reps on that last drop. The drop set has no break/rest between weights. You really feel it in the end :).
All this usually takes about 25 minutes.
I usually move onto some back stuff after this, then at the end of the gym workout (40 mins or so), I'll do 20 pushups, 60 supported dips, 15 pushups, 40 supported dips, then maybe another 10 pushups.
5'10", 93Kg.
Been doing weights for a few years, but you should be able to get decent gains within about a month, if you're pushing hard. You'll also find that doing leg exercises gets your testosterone going, and helps with chest/arm exercises. So, squats, dead lifts, etc..
Keep at it guys.
;D

That's standard procedure for the back shed, isn't it? ;D
I had to do the same thing with a mate's gearbox in his MA61 Supra, then the diff blew a week later so we did that the same way too... It also helps if you've got someone else there to start the bolts for you! Auto in a Silvia is a 3-man job, those things weigh a tonne!
