Disabling Radio Antenna
« on: Apr 6, 2006, 11:06PM »
Hey all,
I have no use for the radio in my car and as such dont need the antenna.
Is there any way to "turn it off" so it doesnt automatically pop up when the ignition is on?
Is there a fuse which i can pull out?
Cheers B-Rad

First thing I did once I got my bluey...

If you pop open the boot, and remove the carpet where the jack is stored (there's about 2 plugs near the taillights and a further 2 or 3 on the side near the wheel arch), you'll see the black power antenna motor / assembly.

After some fiddling around, you'll find the cable that powers / controls it - just unplug it.  I wrapped some electrical tape around it also just in case it gets too close to a bare piece of metal or something like that.

I was actually thinking of putting a switch in mine so I could control it - it it's up all the way, it catches on some ropes under my carport...

Hope this helps!

Mine only goes up when I select 'radio' on my headunit.  If its on CD it stays down.

Depends on the headunit aswell...my headunit only has a remote wire output so that is used for both electric antenna and turn on for amps.

I run a cord/antenna from a '91 Maxima and it fits my RNU12 Bluebird perfectly.

I have a refurbished factory antenna with mask spare in my garage.  It was on my Attesa but then replaced it with a Aerpro brand with doesn't sit flush as mentioned.  However I'm happy with it and eventually fixed up the stock antenna.  Its now just collecting dust but am prepared to sell it if anyone is after one which sits flush.

theres no way to stop it half way is there?
Sometimes we just need to remember what the rules of life really are:
You only need two tools: WD-40 and Duct Tape
If it doesn't move and should, use WD-40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use Duct Tape.

If you dont mind the antenna being up all the time, just switch the radio on so the antenna moves up, unplug it, and gently push it down to half-way.

The antenna itself is based on a timer - so the only way to make it go up half way all the time would be to modify the timer...
