Title: wrapping bonnet run through...and installing aero catch latches.
Post by: pedro666 on Aug 28, 2015, 07:07AM
Ok thought I would post a bit of a run through on wrapping. I recently decided to carbon fibre wrapp it.i might add the the better wrap vynal ie, 3m ,Hexis & avery  are butter to apply and generally look better 5 year garentee. the have tech to help channel the air bubbles. you will need 1550x 1200

first of all mace sure you clean the area with prepsol, wax and greese remover or the likes.

For the latches, I marked 100 up 30mm from crease, you firstly drill out the curved bits top & bottom, then grinder or hacksaw for the straight bits

use templates provided to mark them out intially , and to continure trimming . you dont want to take to much out as it will cut into your mounting holes.

here you will cut throught the top skin , then you can start on the bottom through the top.

From here I went onto the skin wrap after re aligning the pins, then drilling the screw holes. then remove before wrapping.

I had to take a photo of black with the whit bonnet, reversal of the favoured black bonnet.

To do the wrap, you will need 2 people. Lay the piece over the bonnet .First of all wipe surface with prepsol, and make sure surface is smooth. Then remove all backing sheet. You will need about 10 -20 mm overhang as it gets tucked underneath. Do the centre first and keep is tight , pretty much stretching it over while squeegeeing out all bubbles. you will have to rip it up a little to get some bubbles out. be careful not to crease. When I did this it started to rain and temps dropped which made the vynal a little less flexible and also slippery which made it a bit hard to keep tension.

Once done trim it up, fit latches, I use  rivets to secure.
