Try 3M TRIM ADHESIVE, it's in a white can. It is a bit expensive but it is designed for gluing car trim pieces back into place. Where I was working (AUTOWEST PAINT SUPPLIES in Penrith Sydney if you need paint give them a call if your local) I sold it to everyone who wanted to glue car interior trim and no one came back saying it was rubbish.

Where do you find it then?

I tried re-doing my roof a while ago, I put foam on then fabric. (Don't like excessive vinyl, eugh). The foam stuck I think, but the fabric didn't. Which sucks, because it looked great for a whopping 2 days :(

Also (Kinda O/T but since you seem to know), know of any good vinyl dyes? The actual penetrating stuff, not the shitty plastic paint crap.

You should be able to get the glue from most automotive shops (scotties, supercheap repco etc). Your best bet would to pay a visit to the 3M website and find a local authorised dealer, if your local authorised dealer dosen't stock it they should be able to order it in for you. The spray comes in an aerosol can and the part number is #08088
I not sure of cost but I think it is around $20 in NSW might be different in other states.

Another glue you could use is GPI brushable glue it is in a black can. It is good for doing jobs where you need complete glue coverage not just spray lines.

Either glue will the job. Personally I would go for the GPI glue if I were doing a roof lining but for door trim I would use either.
If you can't find either glue maybe we can sort something out as I can get bothe glue types.

Depending where you live AUTOWEST PAINT SUPPLIES have a delivery service that goes to Windsor and surrounds, granville, arndell park, blacktown, minto, bathurst, orange, smeaton grange, silverdale, seven hills.
Theey can be contacted on 4721 3301

Rake,

See the above reply for details on where to get the glue. The part number is #08088. AUTOWEST PAINT SUPPLIES stock it and it costs around $20 from memory, I don't work there anymore. For roof linings I would recommend using a brushable glue such as GPI trim adhesive although it is entirely up to you. Auto west also stock this glue. They have a delivery service that goes to Blacktown and surrounds so they should go to Marayong (assuming your profile is up to date). The GPI glue costs about the same.

In terms of painting or "dying" vinyl. Paint is definitely the way to go. If you prepare the surface correctly the paint will stick. I recommend taking a sample of your vinyl to a specialist automotive paint shop and getting them to make it for you. It will cost a little more but it will almost be an exact match and  it will be proper vinyl paint ( vinyl paint has a special thinner in it which helps the paint adhere to the vinyl).
I do not know of any "dyes" that you could use. For getting the colour I would highly recommend using Autowest as they can colour match anything to a blendable state i.e no edge to edge matches. Also Autowest are the only shop between Penrith and Minto that colour match vinyl
that I know of.
They do all their colour matches by eye as machines can be unreliable.
Depending on what you are painting you can use normal automotive acrylic paint if it is hard plastic (dash boards, the plastic that goes on the sides of the front seats in pintara's and corsair's.)
You can contact Autowest on 4721 3301.
If you need the glue and can't get to Autowest and they don't deliver i your area maybe we can sort something out. I work at Eastern Creek so I won't realy be going out of my way.

For my boot i used "Kwik Grip" and it hasn't let go once. Dries very fast and leaves a very very solid bond.

Any contact adhesive will do the job.

It comes in paint tins, tubes and aerosol cans, 3M just put a 200% markup on it to make their profit margin.

Thanks I might investigate :)

I've tried some cheap vinyl stuff and while it's easy to put on and look good, I just find the surface isn't all that durable - can be scuffed and scratched and whathaveyou. I don't use the stuff very often, but it seems like a great way to bring things up to scratch aesthetically. For instance, I did my etag (sensibly) so it didn't stick out like a sore thumb.
