idling issues...
« on: Oct 26, 2004, 04:35PM »
Hi.

I'm new here. I own a Nissan Pintara.

I have owned it for 2 yrs now and before that it was my grandparents, which they got new.
It had been in their garrage forever, then they gave it to me when they got a new mazda 6.

I'm experiencing idling  problems and occasional stalling, esp when it has been raining, etc. The timing has been adjusted and the mechanic has checked everything under the bonet and readjusted stuff.

It doesnt stall much now, but i always get that feeling the engine wants to cut out, esp with the lights or ac on.

Any ideas?

BTW it is only a standard pinny  :-[ but i am planning on beefing it up a bit.

[edit]ps i am a car novice.]

test out ur alternator charging power. I had a similar problem as my car kept stalling at the lights when i had the stero going. found out my alternator was charging at only 10V instead of the 14.4 its meant to. new alternator later and problem is gone

thanks guys, will check that stuff out.

when it idles it goes from about 1500rpm (when its in the norms) then goes down to below 1, when it wants to kick out, when i stop at intersections, etc...

cheers.

the idle should be set at 800 +/- 50 for manual and i think 850 +/- 50 for automatic

its not idling anymore, but there is a real loss of power somewhere
