vibration in 4th and 5th gear
« on: Jul 28, 2003, 10:47PM »
Hi

i own a r31 pintara gli manual which have 320000+ on the clock. Lately i got a lots of problem. First it was the exhaust manifold which it wap or crack for some reasons. Which i changed. now i got problem with vibration of the car in 4th and 5th gears when accelerating or cruising , 70km/h+ but it also happen in neutral around that speed. ANy help guys?

Does anyone know how long can a manual gearbox usually last provided it was driven normally.
As my, the synchos are going now. How much will it cost to buy another one.

Anyone know if a u12 MAP sensor can fit on a R31 pintara to replace the air flow meter, will i need to replace any other electronic parts?

I am a bit disspointed to this car after owning it for more than 4 year. ???

have you checked the uni joints? also, your drive shaft may be out of balance otherwise not sure  :-\

or maybe you just need a wheel allignment
if its out a little bit  you wont notice it at low speeds but you notice at higher speeds
worth a check for like 25 - 35 bucks

check around places like repco or bursons for stuff like that.. would be much cheaper than going to nissan too.

It could be-

wheels need aligning, wheels need balancing, uneven tyre wear, unbalanced drive shaft, worn out diff, worn or loose f/r wheel bearings, there's lots of things that it could be but firstly is it primarily a speed vibration or one that only happens in 4th and 5th. I know my old Bluebird (which I just happened to see today driving around Adelaide - she's still looking good!) it had a definite diff whine almost the second you hit 80.... anyway, we had a bad vibration problem with my mum's Festiva and it was due to a) a large dent in one of the rims, and b) a bubble on one of the rear tyres. You might want to check these things out just as a precaution. Also do a cursory check on your front and rear wheel bearings.

Hope this helps a bit ;)

hi guys :)

i took it down to the mechanic the other days to check it out, and it was the uv near the diff that was worn, so $90 was gone for that. now the noise and vibration is gone.

 :)

thanks for the help guys!
