King Springs: gathered end up or down?

Which way do the King Springs go in?  Gathered end up or down?

There's a notice on the pack that says to put the gathered end up if you can.  But they sit better when I put them down.

I dunno what to do.

Gathered end up.

These springs are progressive rate, so when compressed, they get harder to stop bottoming out on the bump stops.

beikng that there progressive ie harder when getting compressed, would it therefore make the spring harder to put them in gathered end down, untill they compress alot and there hardness softens but is still quite hard from the ungathered end being compressed,

hmm that make not too much sence but i hope you get what i mean
