QLD Raceway and Lakeside Sprints
« on: Feb 10, 2009, 07:14PM »
Well i took the CRX up to QR for the 1st round, quickest time was a 1:06:7 with no grip on the rear through the corners, also a lot of very low 1:07's. Not bad times, fastest the pinny has run is 1:06:2. when it's mtr was standard as well. I was about half a second faster than an MR2 that was in my group all day.
Lakesides 1st round is on 1st march, can't wait.

OK Mr. Sticky here goes,

dates are feb 21, apr 4, may 23, july 4, sep 19 nov 7, nov 28.
Need to get there by 11am there abouts to give yourself time to sign on etc.
runs start about 12:30/1:00pm

pay on day $149, prepaid $119, annual licence $55 or day licence $20. Helmet hire $5 + dep on day.

Entry requirements are; car has to be able to be driven on public roads, street rubber if you want the points,
long pants, long sleeves, shoes/sox. It's really just turn up in your street car, sign on and go for it when they call your group.

It's pretty good value seeing as you can get up to 28 laps in a day broken into 4 grps of seven laps.
They now run approx 15 cars on track at one time, used to be 8.
Come give it a go and anyone else that wants to truelly see how good they/their car can go.
Believe me there is nothing on the street that gives you the thrill of going flat out on a race track where there is no traffic to worry about besides the other guys that are doing the same thing and there is really nothing to hit with the runoffs they have there.

oh and if there aren't a lot of cars and we get all our runs done early, sometimes they do let you take passengers out for a run without helmets and no overtaking as long as they're 18 or over.

Sounds good. Is it like a time trial event or is it a competitive one? Any special requirement on the car? Thanks for the heads up :)

you're racing the clock to get your best time but you do get points as well to go towards the sprint championship. As to the car, read 1st post again  :)

If any of you had come out you could have got a ride around the track at speed as a passenger for 15 mins after we were done  :P

No faster time this meet, water across track in the dippers and then a skyline dumped a heap of oil going into the last corner onto the straight, so it was a bit slippery in places.

No, not modding the crx to much. Will put better rubber on it when the tyres are stuffed. I want to fix the problem the pinny has and get it back on the track.

Haha on you Paulie, if I wanted to push it I could have got under you in the corners a few times but we're only supposed to overtake on the straights (where you had the advantage) unless waved through by the driver in front and I was thinking that you were trying to stay in front so I didn't want to push our luck.

Yeah I figured as much but first time around the track and still getting used to the car and the way it handles etc. I could probably push it harder around the bends but I spose that'll come with experience.

Ok, today was the last round of the QR sat. afternoon sprints. Had a great day and thanks Jeff from Track Attack. Got a PB for the maroon crx of 1:07:14. It was the new wheels/rubber that helped but this car still does not handle as well as the grey crx did. Had a chat with the crx boys and they said it's probably the settup of the suspension and shitty weight distribution unballancing the car. I have a little work to do before next season > January.

Oh and Noss, i was quicker than a mini cooper S  :P

Sorry Jeff wasn't 100% sure i was going to get up there so just entered on the day.
Yeehah, got a fastest time for the crx on the sprint track > 1:06:51. (I think that's quicker than my Pintara ever ran as well).
Ran a 1:11:82 on the clubman track, 1st time on it. Was damned fun chasing and hanging on to a crv8 monaro and a 180sx, very happy with that.
Now i have to buy new brakes tomorrow lol.

For fuck sake, looks like it's a no go for me now. Got an oil leak in the crx and it's getting worse. Needs to be fixed before anymore sprints etc.

Waited for a couple of hours and watched the morning general practice. Mitch goes out in grp 3 of the sprints and blows his motor on his 2nd timed lap :(
Luckily he has a front cut with turbo motor waiting to go in.
