a bit xxxx

ok pod filter, 2.5inch exh, full rebuild inc, ported head, cam regrind, balanced bottom end, lighted and balanced fly wheel inc clutch (heavy duty RPM) and i also tend to think its a bit of a freak motor straight from the factory

I would also like to add that my pb qtr time is 15.79sec but i cant find the slip it was about a year and a half ago damn it lol but 15.814 still gets me the fastest time, YIPEE!

Hmm... when do caulder drags start pumping again?  Any melb ppls know?
15.8 is a very good time.  Surely you have a chip in there with those mods?  Otherwise i'd say you have room for improvement still.

oh yeah i forgot that i have a stage 3 chip 3inch intake pipe and Maxima AFM (air flow meter)

Thats my latest mods so with more time at the drags i should be pulling 15.5-15.6 with perfect start and perfect shifts and more driving time.l lost my licence back in april which was 2 weeks after the new clutch went in so i hadnt got used to it not slipping all the time especially 1st to 2nd.

still happy with 15.8

NOSS is in mind and no smart asses not Ryan the administrator either lol

that cutting out behind the light method is a pain. Just rip out the cornering light, or bust a whole downwards where the tank to reduce intake noise is. all you gotta do is trace a circle and drill it out slowly with a small drill bit.

hey Bungs

weght reduction?

what spare wheel, door trims back seat is that what your talking about? can i run down the strip with no doors? lol yeah right

i have to try some runs without my 17in chromies on it (ill put the 14s back on) and ill get rid of the big ass scoop i have aswell i swear that scoop is costing me a fair bit cause as ive said before my pb was 15.79sec and that was before the chip and afm, though i was getting perfect starts and good shifts, if i remember right i think i was doing 2.2sec 60 ft times to get the 15.7

so with that in mind im a little bit annoyed that i went fractionally slower with more power.

if you remove your front bumper there is a large cylinder shaped hunk of metal weighing about 4-5kg removing that would be good weight reduction

For sure, get that unsprung weight down as much as you can, those 17's would be a time killer.

Get rid of spare tyre, run with 1/4 fuel, take a shit before you race, as xxxx said remove the anti-vibration metal behind the front bar, don't have to to take the front bar off to access it though - 2 bolts is all it is.

Also deflate the front tyres to about 20psi, get that 60ft time down ;)

fuel i put $30 bucks in when i still had a quarter of a tank its been so long i wanted to make sure i had enough for all my runs and get home.

spare tyre i did that yipee  ;D
And that bar at the front is just two bolts and does absolutley nothing damn it again!

well it might raise the octane, but the engine doesn't get more power because of a higher octane fuel, unless it has knock sensoring and knows when to stop advancing timing. (which the ka doesn't)

weght reduction?

Take this advice for what it's worth, but one weekend, go to BOC Gas and get yourself about $50 worth of dry ice ($5 /kg if i remember correctly), pull out your interior to get the carpet up, and with the dry ice, working over one part of the car at a time, spread out the dry ice on the sound deadener, cover it with a towel and leave it for about 3-5min. Come back, and with a hammer tap the now brittle sound deadener, and proceed to lift it up in chunks off the floor.

I've only done the back half of my car, but there was about 5-6kg of the shit i pulled out; at a guess i'd say there is another 6-7kg in the front half to the firewall.

Pull your aircon out too.

Get a lighter battery and relocate it to the boot.

If you are running a std throttle body, get it enlarged and a new throttle plate machined up. (I may be able to offer this service shortly ;D)

If you don't want to fork out for a CDI ignition and coil, wire up the stock coil to ensure it gets full battery voltage, instructions are here:
http://www.ka-t.org/ignitionrewire.htm
Conversely, do what i did and get a Crane HI-6 and LX92 coil and some decent leads (like Magnecore's, you'll have to get them made up, about $120-150 for the complete set) and you can even wire up the built in limiter on the HI-6 to act as launch control.

Finally after this essay, are you running stock compression? or higher?

SSS, do you think this would be worthwhile for a car with basic mods? (CAI, exhaust & chip)
It's all pretty simple, and very cheap, so I guess I may as well do it!

what I want to know is wether the relay will be able to pulse fast enough with the revs of the engine. I suppose the pulse will be so quick that it will just stay on.

The negative side of the coil is the switching side. The positive side of the coil is always powered. Hence the relay would only switch when you turn the ignition on or off.

Correct. I had done this on my own U12 and it worked without fault as long as you wire it all correctly, ie use the correct gauge wire and solder your connections.

I got my HI-6 about 3 weeks after; to be honest i didn't notice a difference wiring the coil this way, as my ignition system was already in pretty good condition. It can't hurt to do though.

damn thats a good time, weight reduction and aerodynamics are a racers friend.  you should be able to pull a really nice time switching to lighter and smaller wheels and tires, so long as you can keep traction and keep those reaction times good.  hell if you go to the track alone take out your passenger seat too!  octane booster is gonna be a waste, you might make even less power because it ignites too late, unless you can adjust your timing.  sounds like your engine has a lot of potential you gonna keep modding or are you satisfied with what you got?  sounds like you got all the easy and important stuff out of the way.

Where did you find your 12V source from? You cant use the battery because thats too much and very erratic (14.7v average and then higher when charging) and I dont like the idea of using a source that has additional load. Maybe make up your own 12v regulator?  ???

and keep those reaction times good.

the ET is independent from the reaction time
