Which fuse ??
« on: Feb 1, 2006, 03:49PM »
Hey guys, I did a quick search and didn't find too much. Basically I'm just wondering what amperage fuse I need to get to use with my power cable from the battery to the amp? I'm going to use a gold fuse from Jaycar and a goldplated fuse holder from jaycar too probably I'm just not sure which fuse to use as they come in a few different amperages.

Thanks!

10A my guess ?

10amp would be quite small...

What size amp is it? Power output ir RMS?

Or better yet, get a match for whatever sized fuse is on the actual amplifier. If its 40amp, get a 40amp fuse for the battery :)

40A should be ok, but go to a 60A, just for good measure

Just make sure the power wire is rated for 60A.

I wouldn't be sure of that. I know the power cable has been able to run this amp before and it previously had a fuse on it. I just don't know the amperage of the fuse.
The amp's instruction manual says:
Fuse Rating: 40A x 2

Should I get a 80A or 40A ??

Thanks

Yeah, 80A then.

Do you know what gauge wiring you have?

I have 8 Gauge wiring.

So 4 gauge has a greater diameter right? What's the difference b/w 4 & 8 gauge wiring in terms of functionality?

So you need a specific gauge wire to correctly carry power depending on distance, amperes & voltage?

How is this worked out?

My amp is 760WRMS total power (and it's 12V right?)
As before it's 80 amperes?
Distance would be up to say 3 meters?

Yeah, 4G wiring... and an 80amp fuse... Not sure if many places will have 80amp glass fuses. You may have to go to an ANL fuse/fuse holder.

I ordered some stuff from Jaycar on the net, and stupidly forgot to get the fuse holder and fuse. So I'll check out JB Hi-Fi when I go to pick up some stuff I ordered and if they don't I'll probably just get the fuse from jaycar. They have an 80A fuse there and a fuse holder for it, but it's pricey...
