My Boot Setup Comments Please EDITED with pics!
« on: Aug 9, 2005, 09:49AM »
This whole setup is embarasing so i have removed the pics. It has advanced alot since then but because this thread has been dug up im now ashamed at what i once marveled at.

Quote
Hey i was planning my boot setup and wanted your advice on it.

Right now: it has the carpet in 1 piece but ripped up and in an untidy mess.
Wires everywhere due to me ripping out my sub due to it flighing all over the place and my lazyness to tye it down.

What i plan to do this week: I plan to completly remove the carpet (it looks shit in my opinion) and then by some cheap boards and cut them to shape to fit perfectly in my boot. Then buy some of those stained connector floor boards and cut them down to size and put them in. (Please tell me if u think this will look sh*t).
Then repaint my sub box (pic below) a red or brown colour to match the car or the boards and drill it into the boards so it cant move. Then i was thinking of putting a colour changing neon in the box (at the back of the port) so that when the car is on the sub box looks good and colourful. Thats about it for this week.

Eventualy: I plan to get 2 respnse amps (500rms each) and 1 more DD 10inch sub (650rms) and then hook them up in 2 matching good looking boxes with a sick boot setup with neons and all the other stuff. All the wires hidden and my speaker amp setup nicly. I havent planned that yet tho so i cant explain it.

Well what do u think? Is there anything i should add/change?

Thanx ashman01

PIC: http://www.team-purity.net/car/Picture%20010.jpg
(My old car) Since then the amps have been attacted to the sub box and the DD has been turned around so the port is facing up.

EDIT

Here is my new setup, Its about 50-60% complete:

Now i made a wooden floor and spreyed the sub box and floor red.
I made a stand for the amp and will be making another 1 once i get the amp and the other equiptment i need,
Then im gona probably re carpet the hold boot black or somithng. I dont no about that yet.

Well i will have more soon.

I think the floorboard idea would look very tacky but each to their own.

Again, alot of people will say neons are ghay but again, each to their own. I appreciate the use of neons in an artistic way, like backlighting a window in a device, or adding a subtle lighting, but if they're used to just put more flashy light-up shit on a car they do look really dodgy.

Example of dodgy neons: the other day I saw a Commodore with blue under car neons driving around, and the tubes were hanging out clearly visible below the bumpers and sills.

i too am not sure on the floorboards thing, but it sure is original, it'd have to be done just right i reckon. You'd have to do something about the walls in the boot aswell you wouldn't be able to just lay the floor and leave the stocky carpet going up the sides and back.

as for the neon it'll need to be pretty darn bright to shine out of the port (i've tried this :P) when i done it my neons weren't all too bright but i thought of a little trick if i paint reflective paint on the inside of my box it'll act like a headlight yeah......................NO it didn't do shite and there was only a faint glow, and you had to look real hard to see it

if you are any good at photoshopping put in the floorboards and see what it looks like, if not post a few more pics of your boot from different angles and see if someone here will be kind enough to do some chopping for you, heck if they are good enough they can even put in neon glow for you

floorboard idea would be mad... you could hang a small basketball ring from the inside of you boot lid and paint some basketball lines in... would look MINT... original idea

problem being would be that if you had the floorboards in the boot, it'd be a massive hassle if you ever needed your spare tyre...

i prefer the look of a carpetted box over paint, unless you have a full woodgrain lacquer finish for the floorboards and box... that would look sweet...

i like the use of neons... wat i've done recently is use the superbright LED's as spotlights onto my feature 10"... gives the same atmosphere as a neon, except with a wider range of applications... hook it all up to the boot light switch, and you're good to go...

you could have a fake MDF wall, with the amps flush mounted into the wall (so when u open the boot you see the amps on the wall)
then behind the wall have 2 subs in boxes behind the seats facing forwards towards the driver (so u pull down the back seats and see a wall with 2 subs pounting out)

and u could even have 2 ported holes in the back wall that the amps are on

all covered in a nice matching carpet

i was planning on keeping my idea hush hush but ill share it lol...

in the boot setup that im doing i plan to make the boot into something similar to a 3 sided box. on the back where the seats are i plan to have 2x 12" subs in a box with 2 walls to make the sides of the boot appear flat and on those 2 walls i am having an amp on each "wall". and on the other sides of the "walls" i plan to make boxes which you can open up for items like the jack etc. and as for the spare tyre i plan to make a hatch which you can open up and easily access the spare tyre without having to pull all the shit out 2 access it. in my mind its quite practical because u still have boot space and everything is accessed without any effort. i plan to cover it in black carpet... i reckon it'll look sick because the car is gettin painted black... unsure about "trim" colours yet but that'll come when im actually finished it all... lemme kno wotya think?

1st off sorry about the wrong forum but the idea was comments on the wooden floor not the setup but the post just turned out that way.

As i was writting it i figured that i would have to address the carpet around the sides of the boot and the "basket ball" look and i think after thinking it over i will revert to my backup plan of just getting a sheet of mdf or somthing like that and carpeting over that.

Colzie - That sounds like a great setup. Will have to look at it at a cruise after u complete it.

just to give you an idea this is my setup, it's not that great but it doesn't take up too much space for 2 12's and 2 amps, and i've also got to finish it but i can still get to my spare and everyting is taken care of at the moment

The car is a Corsair Ghia, and the screws are about 15-20mm(from memory).

Squirt a bad of silicone or urethane between the boot lid framing and skin, and then cover the whole lot in sound deadening mats.

How much more detailed does it get?

silicone/urethane = goopy sealant stuff
sound deadening mats = bituminous sound deadening such as 'Dynamat'

the only panel you need to do this to is the boot lid.

You may also find the number plate is rattling, use some silicone or double sided tape to stop it from rattling.
