Newbie Corsair
« on: Feb 28, 2006, 10:52AM »
hey all. my names Megan, 21.
I live half way between central coast and newcastle in NSW.
I drive a ford corsair and i have had it for about 2 months and bought it for $400.
I love my car and am hoping to do it up over the near future.
I have put a Panasonic mp3 player in it an have 2 12"subs with 1200watts but still waiting to find a good amp to support them.
I've just been doing the interior for now and will get to the exterior shortly.
I'm working two jobs to support my car addiction and one of them is a pizza delivery driver so I'm always in my car!
I'm happy i have found this site its heaps helpful.
hopefully ill have some more news soon.
my pics will be here soon.

thanks  Meg.

looks good megan, as i said in the 'start here' thread, welcome to the site, and i hope you enjoy it here...
judging from the pics, it looks to be a GL Corsair... looks like a nice neat ride, and for 400 bucks, you cant go wrong...
I'm sick of my knob going all floppy and loose in my hand  :P
I've been on probation for 21 years, can't make a decision without consulting the wife first  ::)

interior is lookin good, the red and black is very tough...  and it suits your xplods as well

speaking of which, you might wanna rotate the sub on the right.  looks a little wonky :)  and once you find your decent, amp, it'll definately pump hard
Project Siltara has been chipped, nismofied and getting exhausted

Yet another pizza driver with two jobs :D Who do you deliver for?

That interior looks great! What did you use on the doors? Vynil spray?

Good cheap cars aren't they! I got a Corsair with a blown engine for $200 for parts, sounds like you picked up a real bargain! Was there much mechanically wrong with it?

I just spent some time looking at audio gear...

Your subs:

12" SUBWOOFER, 1200W MAX XSL121P5
    * Size (cm): 30
    * Type: Enclosure
    * Peak Power (W): 1200
    * Rated Power (W): 350
    * Impedance (ohms): 4
    * Frequency Response (Hz): 18-2k
    * Sensitivity (dB): 89
    * Diaphragm Material: Injected Polypropylene
    * Magnet Material: Ferrite
    * Weight Approx. (kg): 4.5

So you need something that can run 2x350WRMS into 4 ohms or 1x700WRMS into 2 ohms.

All I could find after a quick search was this:
http://www.pioneeraus.com.au/car_entertainment/amplifiers/gm5200t/index.html
1x380W RMS at 4 ohms

Only problem is you'd need two of 'em.

yes another pizza delivery driver... i deliver for Domino's at Morrisset.
on the Doors i had to tape them up then i first used a red vinyl spray on them but it was too dark so i went and got some red enamel spray cans and went over it and it worked better than i thought.
Because i did the first layer with a dye it gave more give in the vinyl and now it wont crack the new enamel.

No they're wasn't to much wrong with it.
First i thought it was just a blown head but when i got the new head it still didn't run properly because the cylinders were out so i didn't want to play around with them so i went and bought a new motor and my old man helped put it in. nothing else was really wrong except the reversing lights.

Otherwise it was a great buy. Even with 4 brand new tyres.

I was at my other work today (Strathfield) and this caught my eye:

$429
350W RMS at 4 ohms
700W RMS at 2 ohms

Perfect match for your subs, and cheap too!

I like the doors. I want to do that to my car with something plushy :) Though I might be tempted to go for a bank green interior rather than red but who knows :P

Just the one of those would run both subs fine.

Run your subs in parallel off the bridged output of the amp. (let me know if you need me to decipher that last sentence for you :))

Tuggerah is a little inland from the entrance (where my grandparents live :)). Prolly around a half hour south of Newcastle I would think, the next major city centre being Gosford. Wyong, yeah .. isn't that the broader area + council? I know the area a bit. I hate the road with the bazillion goddamn roundabouts!

If you can't find me anywhere around sydney, most usually around the christmas/NY/summer break, the next best place you'll find me is up there ;D taking the old pac inbetween ofcourse!!

any hint of traffic and theres no fun to be had. i hate it, I always got carsick as a kid and whenever we went up there for the holidays, I'd feel all shitty from the drive and having to weave back and forward and back and forward along that road was just euuuuuugggggghhhhhh fuck i hated it.

but driving now carsickness is not so bad for me.

Welcome

You live in a very nice part of the world.

I think that area would be a great area for the next NSW cruse, seeing its between syd and newcastle.

As for a amp, id suggest a jay car response amp there cheep and powerful. Good for a small budget. Try get a mono block there much more powerful.

Not too bad at all. Are you planning on doing more, like the roof lining, glove box etc?

The only thing though, I personaly wouldnt paint things like air vents etc, I would of just left em black/grey. But I reckon you should give the glove box a spray ( I am getting mine done in yellow Vinal), but leave the lock & handle standard black/grey. Also the squarish peice of plastic under the handbrake (in the center console) would also look good red I reckon. A red Gear Boot would make it all the better and a red leather aftermarket Issota Steering Wheel. Look forward to seeing your progress.  ;)

Yeah definitely planning to do more like:
----thinking with the roof lining to cut some foam out and make a patternthen stick it in the roof lining and change it to red or black.
---- i am going to do exactly what you said to the glovebox when i have some time off. ;)
----tried a cheap gear but diddent seem to fit, I'll find another way to fix it..
----funds stopping me from getting the steering wheel for now.

Saving up for a new paint job 8) coz the last person to have it took a few hits.. :(

Thanks for the comments

and its all one road and the roundabouts are annoying but fun when empty. ;D
