Honestly, it's not too bad at all, and who could complain? 24 bottles of light for $17, and that "Schloss" isn't bad for the $ either. wouldnt go near the spirits though, they'd be like guzzling draino i'm sure

How much is a slab of Cascade or Boags Draught (or premo) in victoria?

Average prices of beer in southern tas are:

Cascade/Boags Draught: $33

Carlton Draught: $35
Victoria Bitter: $35ish
Carlton Cold: $36ish
Tooheys Extra -just for da street cred- Dry: $39ish
Corona, cos its what all da metros drink : $ noidea/nocare

oh, and never forget that tassie supplies about 80% of the hops to breweries in australia

You'd pay $40 for a slab of Cascade Premium or Boags Premium... can get boags draught for $30 sometimes on special.

Carlton is normally under $35, sometimes $30
VB, no idea... tastes like piss anyway!
Carlton Cold, right on $30 most of the time
Extra Dry can normally be had for $30 as well
Corona, can honestly say I have NEVER had one. Don't want to either.

EDIT- Coopers Sparking Ale is my current fav, low $40's a slab. A fantastic beer and 1.7 standards as well, so go to smash a few before heading out

i have different 'beer moods'

some days I like Tooheys Old, but other days it tastes like copper 'cause the publicans are dirty.

some days I'm willing to fork out the extra dollar to get some Peroni Nastro Azzuro.. I find it goes really well with woodfired pizza.

I'll also buy a carlton draught simply on how damn good their TV ads are, and I figure... more beer = more beer ads

Boags draught isnt all that great IMHO,
It lacks carbonation and complexity of flavours.

(Cascade Draught is the better of the two - but ask someone from northern tas and they'll tell you the opposite)

Got to say, i keep trying different beers here and there but i always end up coming back to Coopers Pale Ale and Coopers Sparkling.

If anyones from Adelaide, how much is a case of Coopers over that way. Makes sense that beer is cheaper closer to the brewery, as seems to be the case with boags and the Vic breweries.

Budweiser

We don't know why this is in the book, it's almost not beer. Having said that, it's the world's leading beer brand - yet another indication of how silly the planet is at present. It's floral but confectionary-floral; it's smooth enough, but watery. This beer has about as much integrity as a UDL vodka-orange or a cup of instant coffee. If you haven't been paying attention, we don't like this beer. It's made to be sessional but is simply tasteless. This is a weird beer in that it is so popular. We don't get it.

Carlton Cold

With CUB's characteristic sweet-and-sour nose, Carlton Cold manages to magnificently replicate the look, flavour, texture and finish of mediocre Victoria pub tap beer. Quite an achievement - and possibly a reason for its popularity. What you don't get with this beer, however, is the conviviality of the main bar, Sky Tab, the ever-increasing beauty of the barmaid or the unmentionables of the men's dunny. Without all that what's the point of this beer?

Bud is full strength beer guys...

Another interesting thing, beers marketed in the states as 'lite' are still about as full strength as our local heavys, they are just diet beers like that one Carlton puts out called pure blonde.

So it looks like Americans are a bit more hardcore than us when it comes to alcohol content...consumption is a different story though.

Another thing to counter the "American beer is crap" idea is that the much loved Little Creatures Pale Ale is a complete rip off of an American beer called Sierra Nevada Pale Ale!

On another note, here's a question for the Queenslanders up there, did anyone try that commemorative brew XXXX put out about 3 years ago called XXX?

this guy knows his shit, sierra nevadas are bomb too.

definately, lite beer was designed so that you can get just as drunk of beer as you can from liquor because it has the consistency of water but the same alcohol content (5%) as other beers. also, without american beer the beer-bong may have never been invented (not sure about the history of the beer bong but it seems logical)... on that note i just realized what im going to do once i become drinking age, im going to pour a crapload of guinness into a beer bong and have a good night from that point on... hardcore haha

im partial to Extra Dry special brew atm, and also stellas go down well.

Guys,

I was in this grog shop called Dan Murphy's last nite, in Canberra, its huge and stocks heaps and heaps of beer etc. I found a beer but out by Hahn, called Hahn Pale Ale. Its in the same bottles as Hahn premium but has a really dated looking label.

I bought a 6 pack for $13 and i was pleasantly surprised! its a pretty damn tasty beer which i can definitely see suiting warm summer nites.

Has anyone else heard of this Hahn pale ale? could be a new favorite...right up there with coopers pale ale.

I was trying to describe the taste of Little Creatures Pale Ale tonight... and I finally figured out what it tastes like: cinnamon.

It's pretty expensive though, $19.49 for a 6 pack. Most other premium beers are around the $13-15 mark.

Also, I have a slab of that MVP aldi beer in my fridge. Its pretty watery... caps are on really softly, I mean they are VERY easy to remove.

For $25 I would rather spend the extra $5 next time and get a slab of carlton.
