"Cleaning Fluids"
« on: Dec 17, 2002, 11:33PM »
Has anyone noticed the huge range of "cleaning fluids" that you add to your fuel or oil that have materialised in the last year??? Personally I tried using some INJECTOR CLEANER last time I serviced my TRX and noticed NO DIFF. AT ALL. So either my injectors are squeaky clean or the cleaner made no difference. There's also carby, engine, oil cleaner and leak stopper. I think the leak stopper works, not sure about them tho. I'd rather just clean the parts manually...

Any ideas???

I have used a few as I normally only run standard unleaded, therefore need to clean the system from time to time. I can't remember the best, I think nulon was good. You get what you pay for. IMHO cleaner fluids are better than 'octane booster' fluids which don't seem to have much affect.

Yeah well as I said, I bought some injector cleaner for $4.95. Pretty much a no name brand. Maybe I'll choose Nulon or Valvoline next time.  By the way, what does IMHO stand for??????

Cheers bro. I still haven't noticed any difference with the injector cleaner so the one I bought either didn't work or I have nice clean injectors.

Methinks the former.

Nah. My car's pretty clean.

P.S. My mate bought some of the same stuff for his VK Commodore (same brand of cleaner) and his car is NOT CLEAN UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. He said he didn't notice any difference either.

cleaning fluids (injector cleaners) are more designed to maintain the level of cleanliness of the injectors as oppossed to cleaning them outright.
they would only have about 20-30% cleaning effect compared to taking the injectors out and having them pressure cleaned.
also be careful what you put in and the quantity you put in as some chemicals can damage your oxygen sensor,
so make sure they are suitible for injected motors.
