Fog light fuse blows.....
« on: May 28, 2016, 10:06AM »
Hi all.  Its been a while.  the fact that I haven't been posting obviously means the TRX is running well!

However, got a small issue.  The fuse (15A) for the fog lights blows as soon as the fog lights are switched on.  They used to switch and work no problems, so obviously something is short circuiting somewhere.

Before I go and see the auto electrician, any pointers to start with?  I couldn't find a relay for the lights (wasn't obvious in the service manual) - but could it be a stuffed relay?

The other thing I note is that the foggies have 100w bulbs and apparently they should only have 55w or something.  I assume that this could be enough to stuff the relay???

Any opinions welcome!

Sort out this issue on the weekend - all up only 20 mins work.

The wires leading into the right hand fog light had crimped over and were pressed up against the car body.  With the passing of time and few hundred Kms of vibration, they had chaffed through the insulation and shorted the circuit.

Some electrical insulation tape, careful routing of the wires and a new fuse later - all sorted.
