CA18NS U12 upgrades
« on: Nov 29, 2005, 12:46AM »
I want to know what upgrade can i do with my CA18NS......I dont wanna change the engine....I want to use it..
I was thinking in dual 45DCOE, headers, bigger valves, shave the head.....because there's no aftermarket performance parts for this engine.
Somebody can give me an advice???????
I found it for $500 and invest $300....so i want to invest about 2100$ more.

HOW CAN I UPLOAD PICS????????

What's a CA18NS? Carby version of the CA?  ???

Upload pics by using the image hosting thing in the reply window above the [Post], [Preview] and [Spell Check] buttons... click browse, find your file, then click the [host it!] button, take a copy of the direct link, then close that window, click the button, then paste the direct link between the [ img ] and [ /img ] tags.

...ive gathered that S stands for SOHC (of which now nissan would have dumpted the use of), but N has me stumped

Quote from: Wikipedia
The 1.8 L CA18S was a carbureted version of the CA engine available in Japan.
...
The CA20S is a 2 L (1974 cc) engine ... and is fed by a carburetor

I'd say the S meant carby, and N meant single cam or FWD or something.

Ideas:

Mechanically, lose the engine, get a KA24DE or SR20DET if you want a turbo, then work on the suspension.

Cosmetically, fix up the damage and respray it in a dark colour, lowered with rims would look schweet 8)

If you need inspiration, have a poke around on the forums here and check out what other people have done.

Hummm

What country you in mate?

CA18DET is what I would recommend for a swap.  Otherwise, you could probably get some reasonable power out of the 18NS with a bigger carby, and some breathing mods.  I doubt these motor have much guts at all stock tho...

Seems it is 90hp

I'm from Panamá (Central America).......I also have a U13 SR18DE.....So I dont wanna go for a SR engine in my U12
I had problems with my U13...but I solved it with a  used SR20 head (it cost 200$). Now both, the U12 and U13 are going to paint shop.
I will work with my CA18NS...I know there's not to much HP that I can obtain from my engine...but....its a challenge...I'll keep it!
If anyone know where to buy perfomance parts for a CA18NS.....just tell me please

Soon Ill upload pics from the U12 and U13..

thats wat i was goin to say... definately a weber..

you could probably mount a 32/36 dgav quite easily, which would give it a significant kick in the pants.. just need an adaptor plate, probably a bigger fuel pump.

they came out of the escort and mk2 cortina
Project Siltara has been chipped, nismofied and getting exhausted

Find a second hand ca20 and rebuild it. The parts should only be 300 roughly including rings and bearings. WHile you have the head off, get it shaved and get the cam reground.

You will have to modify the inlet manifold or get one made as ther are no carby manifolds available off the shelf for the sohc CA

The ca20 will bolt to your gearbox if you use the ca18 flywheel and clutch.
you can get out of a ukrainian prison for 2 packs of marlbro and a bottle of vodka....
