TUFF bonnet
« on: Feb 2, 2006, 05:15PM »
G day guys. does the earlier pintaras 1987 to 1989  bonnet fit a straight fit on the later pintaras 1990 to 1992.
cause the earlier bonnets look tuffer with a slight scoop towards to the later models.
Any help would be great.     cheers

The car is a different shape...maybe the bonnet hinges dont line up.

My main reason would be that the shape of the car is so different it would not line up and look out of place. Cant say for sure if the dimensions will be the same.

No it's not a straight fit.

Better?

There's little chance the hinges would bolt on, and no chance that it'd close. The cars are just too different.

I just assumed it would be designed to suit pioneers subs which are generally a 4ohm load other then the one or two dual coils they have brought out.

ok... WTF?!?!?! lol :P

what sr20_trx said.

the R31 (1986-1989) bonnet and in fact entire car, is designed for the straight 6 RB engine to fit running straight up and down the middle of the car.

The U12 Pintara is designed for a 4 cylinder engine to sit across in between the front wheels (give or take it being a bit closer to the windscreen or nose)

It wouldn't fit without a lot of work. Your best bet is to make a fibreglass scoop and bolt it on to the bonnet you have.

I heard somewhere that the R31 is the same width as the U12... but maybe that was just BS.  If this is the case, it should bolt up, but it would never close and would look like poo anyways.  The imagination was there in the first place at least.
TUFF bonnet just got a knockout in the first round.

Have you looked at an R31 and a U12 side by side? notice that they are DIFFERENT cars? If you don't like the answers you get, go and spend money on an R31 bonnet, try and fit it to a U12 and come back and whinge that you wasted your money. lol.

I've got a Z50 with a jammed gearbox and a carby that needs to be rebuilt, do you have a pic of the RB26 Chad? And do you have a gearbox you can sell me or would I have to make one out of a rubber band and a couple of tin cans?

dont use tin cans mate they rust too easy. Sheet metal works much better, just got to bend it till it looks right.

Simple, just add another rubber band... you don't need all that hydraulic gadgetry when you can do it the simple way 8)
