My Shopping List
« on: Mar 11, 2008, 11:13PM »
I havn't really been posting much latley... ive been off trying on a spirit journey... anyway im back... and with a question, take it or leave it...

my current shopping list sits at...

New dash (behind the wheel its shattered)
Air box (lost clips and the bolts holding it in)
Recondition the roof (all the vinyl has caved in now)
Extractors (current exhaust manifold has cracked quote "theres a hole in it bigger than your girlfriend" - my mechanic)
return spring + boot (we all know how they get eventually)
Boss kit (i want to put my new leather wheel on it)
Performance chip (i have no justification for this other than it would be cool)

worth doing? anyone got parts/suggestions? im not sure weather i want to put money into fixing this car or just go buy a new car....

you can't ask us that question if it's worth doing it.... do you really want the car???

it's obvious if you didn't think twice about the car you would have done it by now, i'll leave the rest up to you.
Don't let the opinions of the average man sway you. Dream, and he thinks you're crazy. Succeed, and he thinks you're lucky. Acquire wealth, and he thinks you're greedy. Pay no attention. He simply doesn't understand.

to be fair, it wouldn't be ANTRX if we stayed on topic.

and if someone wasn't cranky at Chr1s for something he said...

Well put it in order of price and need.

First: Extractors. Not expensive (few hundred) and its NEEDED.
Then prob airbox - A pod is cheaper so thats an easy option.
Roof you can do urself.
Boss kits under $100
Performance chip may not be needed but defiantly wanted

well the list you have there is rather small really. it shouldnt cost you more than a few hundred dollars. if the car is in good nick, replacing that stuff is far cheaper and easier than buying a new car.. but if your car has other major issues, then maybe it is time to look around? but then that depends on if you can afford it or not. i've found that prices of cars have either remained steady and some prices have even increased over the last few years!  so if your budget for a new car isnt huge, you might end up with something worse than you already have.

i dont really think people can give a flat out yes or no, because ultimately its not their car, not their money and arent aware of the overall situation.

noss really is god...

thats basically the idea that hit me today. whats in my price bracket really is a step in the wrong direction... and the money spent on repairs not even 6 months ago im not gonna see if i sell it... and hell, i've got no need for (or the money to maintain) an expensive car yet...

that and i'd probably run out of excuses as to why i still lurk here when if i sold it...

i spent the whole afternoon sourcing and pricing parts...and it i think i just fit under budget...

Dash - 45
Return spring + boot 35
Stage 2 chip - 120 (unless noss can do me any cheaper)
lukey extractors - 400 (plus fitting)
king springs lows 280 (also only if noss doesnt want to do me a mad deal)
air box 65
Roof relined - 110
brakes - 45
spare tire - 35
bonnet latch - 35
bosskit 90
ANTRX sticker 10

1570... and a carton or 5 of beer
i hopefully got lucky on a few things... any of those figures sound to wrong?

well yeh, i go through these questions all the time, but not because my car needs parts fixed, its because i've owned a u12 for 8 or 9 years now... so i always get that urge that its time for a change, but there is nothing wrong with the car, so why bother just at the moment.

yeh lows are nice, but of course i like the super lows.

the problem with overheating, its common on u12's. its the relay failing, so it wont switch your fans on. i had a problem where i'd blow the relay within 1-2weeks of replacing it. turns out  the fans were starting to seize (because they didnt work for a while it seems) and that caused a greater power draw on the system to try and get the fans to rotate, which in turn screwed the relay.

so, simplest fix is replace the relay. worst case is replace the fans.
