KA24E engine Specs
« on: Jan 22, 2003, 04:27AM »
I was doing some reading up on the gold old KA24E and I found something (actually lots of things) that i found hard to believe.

Can someone tell me why the compression is so low?
Its a big engine.

Then, our timing, if im correct if set out + 15 degrees which seems quite a lot for a standard car.

Im I right in guessing that this is nissans, quick fix of getting some performance out of a lazy engine? Low compression, advanced timing?

Apparently it's only the KA24E that runs low compression, the KA24DE runs 9.6:1.
Only thing i could think of is nissan anticipated us using forced induction....

If i remember correctly i think the RB30E ran about +15 deg static timing too.

The reason why they chose the low compression ratio is tolerance of low octane fuel, but i'm not 100% sure on that one.

My old L20B Nissan Bluebird had +16deg timing but that may have been because it was carby. However the series 2 Bluebird only ran +9deg timing and the series 3 which uses the CA20S which is same base engine that some of us r using, is even less I think.  :-/

well, for some cars, when people advance their timing, +15 deg is the max they can go..

but then i have a friend with an old v8 fairlane (gtho shape) and he runs his timing at +30 deg  :o

SO how far do you think we can advance ours without it pinging?

why not try good old trial and error? it might not sound professional, but it works. thats what my mate who is running the +30deg timing did..

just make sure you advance it in small increments eh? :P

Nissan says the timing for the KA24E has a +/-2 degree tolerance. Personally, I wouldn't advance it more than 4 degrees.

Hey, remember what mine was running on the dyno at Nizpro? 20 deg!!!! And it wasn't audibly pinging either on ULP (but then again, it was a cold day...)

I'd say your limit would be about 22deg mitza. and i'd be running PULP too.
