Title: dump pipe!!!
Post by: S1NN3R on Mar 20, 2010, 01:43AM
hey guys, i hear how the stock dump pipe is a p.o.s
where and how much will it cost to get an aftermarket dump pipe ?
how much power should i expect from the upgrade? does it make the turbo spool up any earlier?
im about to have a new turbo put on,would it be best to have a dump pipe put on at the same time?
thanks,
Michael

the mandrel bends to make a dump are usually $30 or so each, then the flanges are $40 or so each, so if youre looking at 2 bends and 2 flanges, thats  a minimum of $150 in parts. then about 3 or 4 hours labour to fab it up, at $70 an hour, its $280 in labour.

worst case scenario, about $400 ISH for a full custom properly designed dump pipe.

I suggest looking at the ebay specials that come out of taiwan and see if they can be modded to fit. I scored a stainl;ess split dump and 3 inch to cat, made for a R33 but after about 30 min of cutting and re-welding it fits my R30 skyline like it was from factory.

Are you running a SR20det??? check out the Pulsar GTi-R...

Nothing for a silvia comes close. The engines sit in the car 90 degrees different. It's starting to look like your trying to do this on the cheap, if you can't afford to do it properly, build your car up slower.

the guy said that single dump pipe will fit..he must be full of shit lol.
not cheap..just as cheap as possible lol.
thats why my other question is..is it best to do the dump pipe at the same time or get it later on?

ok so i found some dump pipes...

i thought u could only have a screamer pipe on an external wastegate lol:)
please explain:p

also is 2.5" a big enough difference? or should i look for a 3"?

no replys?
lol

i showed the guy at hyper gear the dump pipe with the screamer pipe on it.and he his reply was.
"Thanks for your email. Well, those dump pipes are highly Not recommended to get, The wastegate only opens about 60 degrees, that type of dump design will cause boost creep. Get a 3inch bell mouth dump. Cheap and works the best."

now im not exactly sure what he means by opening up 60 degrees? and the guy who makes the dump pipe says that the screamer pipe fullys seals.
eh im confused:) but i hear good things about the AM dump pipes with the screamer.

the wategate flap needs to swing open to 90 deg for optimum exhaust escape. its like haveing your throttle body not opening fully.

on real cheap setups the wastegate wont open enough and the exhaust cant escape quick enough, so then the boost 'creeps' UP (not down) and fuksorz your engine

like on my mates RB20det, 3rd gear pull up hill, full boost at 13psi for 3 seconds then it went 15, 17 20 then BANGGGGG

you can get a spacer flange attached to the dump to let the flap open fully, but its only a bandaid for a cheap purchase. might of been cheaper to get one thats guaranteed to fit, and not restrict flap opening

as stated in other dump-pipe related threads... i have sucessfully had the CES racing twin dump pipe fitted. it just needed an inch of extra pipe welded on to clear the sump.
