At home we have two cats and a dog... between the three of them I spend a few hours each week cleaning up the dog crap in the yard and cleaning out the cats litter box.
Currently the cats both use the one box. A typical box from the pet store it is fully enclosed with a flap door.

So I read once that cats are toilet trainable, so here's the plan.
I have cut out the base of an old mop bucket I had lying around the house.

Step 1: get the cat comfortable going in the bucket
Step 2: move bucket close to toilet
Step 3: Place the bucket inside the toilet bowl with litter

Step 4: Slowly reduce the litter amount
Step 5: When the cat is used to no litter at all I think problem is almost solved
If I get to this point i'll be happy.

hahaha you funny bastard col, must say good idea!

just have to drill in some drainage holes ... all sorted. :D

thats awesome col...

Cats seem to like the bucket, so step 1 & 2 is complete... now to move it into the bowl and see if they still use it.

just remember to take the litter tray out when you wander to the toilet for a midnight piss

Thought I would let you all know the outcome of this little project.
So about two weeks of the cats using their new litter box, they did not pee in there when the litter was low. Then strangely one of the cats started having trouble going to the toilet. We took him to the vet where they told us he has a "narrow penis" and that there were crystals build up in his tubes.
$500 later and a month of special diet, the cat is back to normal. Needless to say we cancelled the experiment and went back to a standard litterbox.
So it was a FAIL.
No guarantee this experiment was the cause of the cats problem but I have no doubt it contributed.
END :(
