Hi all, working on my interior, getting rid of that ugly brown and making it look a little better.
Used Satin black bumper paint for under the dash, and Tan vinyl dye for the dash
what do you think?

dash turned out a really consistant colour... impressed. Hope you don't get too much glare off it. I didnt even realise you painted the under dash sections, they look like they are just standard grey dash. Looks quality, good stuff. 8)

Im not a fan of the Tan dash, but its clearly up to individual taste, and it does look like its very well done. And all the grey parts are really well done.
Top stuff

Thanks for your kind words :) The tan colour is a satin so its not very reflective, I didn't want anything to shiny, already did that in one of my previous cars. Going for an luxury car style factory look :)
I took apart all the small parts and painted them separately but just taped the dash up and sprayed it inside the car, It turned out pretty good, except for the back where it meets the windscreen, little light on colour, but you don't notice unless your looking.
Used VHT Vinyl paint if anyone is interested.

Just finished redoing my front door trims!
Back doors next.
Sorry bout the blurry pic

Getting there, still need to replace the headlining and figure out something to do with the arm rests and window windows.
-
Hit them with a bit of tan vynil dye!
-
Pretty sure i've got a spare set of grey arm rests, will have to check, but you can have them for prety much postage.
Window winders you could get some of the black metal ones, otherwise hit up the wreckers, most japanese cars have the same pattern.
-
Thanks for the offer colby, I'm already looking at some, but if i don't get them, i might take yours off ya hands.
-
personally i would have left it and gotten the brown TI seats
but thats my opinion
-
Yeah, but I hate brown with a passion! :D
I will do anything to get rid of it! My first car had a brown interior for about a week before I changed it all to black and silver.
I don't know anyone who would buy a new car with a brown interior ??? Let alone think, hey this dark grey and black looks shit, I think I'll option it in brown. :D
As for seats, I am either going to get a couple of black semi-racing buckets for the front or grey TRX seats, and either go for the grey Ti rear seat, or TRX rear. Does the Ti really have that much better rear seats?
Now that I think of it, I probably won't go for the TRX rear seats, coz my car is gonna be a cruiser most of the time, so might as well give the back seat passengers a little bit of comfort.
-
i think the trx and the ti rear seats are the same, there bloody comfortable though! if i travel in the rear seat i fall asleep!
-
The whole interior looks great, if the seats matched the doors and the dash it would look like a few thousand dollars worth of trimmers work. top job.
-
Cheers mate, Still got a few bits and pieces to paint, but nearly there.
-
hey i was just woundering what you used to do the top part of the dash tan how did you do it
-
I masked it up with newspaper and masking tape, but you could take the whole dash out, would get a better result that way. Wiped it down with a rag with wax and grease remover on it, waited for it to dry, then sprayed about 3 or 4 light even coats of VHT tan vinyl dye, waiting a few mins for each to dry otherwise it might run. leave to dry for 2 days. That's it. BTW don't touch it with anything for 2 days, just to be sure.

havent seen this thread before.. i have to say good work! looks bloody brilliant.. very factory look and i'm glad to see someone doing an interior with out gawdy colours.
+ karma
-
Thanks noss
I got the idea of doing the interior like this from my mates alfa romeo and some mitsubishi legnums I was looking at.
I have since chucked in some grey Ti seats, and I looking to install some power windows and mirrors. Will have to change the door trim again, although I reckon the grey velour on the doors would look a treat with the tan and black; match the seats as well.
-
nice job bro... look like new

Thanks noss

when people have asked me what colour to do their interior.. bright yellow, bright blue, pink, white.. i've always shaken my head at them and told them to take a look at an alfa, bmw or similar kind of car and try replicate that. nothing worse than a gawdy interior that reflects on the windscreen and gets dirty easy.
-
True to that. I once made the mistake of black and silver, both gloss.
I think everyone should take a ride in a nice euro car anyway, even if it's just as an excuse to see what colours and materials they use because they obviously know something about what they are doing. Much better than an aussie car.
And the comfort... 8)
-
The first time I saw that colour scheme was in a 06-07 Toyota Corolla, and at the time I thought "yeah looks pretty good now but it'll date really quickly".
However it's stood the test of time. Good work.

Hey, Are you trying to take the door panels off? There are 2 screws i think in the arms rests, take off the door handle surround, then you take off the side mirror, which has 3 screws in it, and remove the window winder, piece of fabric between it and the panel should pop off the clip, and then the door panel should pop off if you give it a bit of a tug around the edges and upwards.
I think that's it, good luck.
