Good Sub Amp
« on: Oct 20, 2003, 12:04AM »
hey all

I have a Cadence 12 inch sub, not sure on the power rating.

Was wondering what brands of amps would be good for running this sub.

I guess it's hard to tell without the power rating but yeah.

At the moment it's running off a 2 channel Sansui amp with a built in crossover.  It does the job, but I notice it distorts alot when it really cranks.

Anyway, hope someone out there can help.

Thanks guys!

As always I recommend the Jaycar amps. Either the 2x100wrms bridged giving 234wrms, or the 2x150 bridged giving 450wrms ( :o).

That sub is made to take 350wrms, and comes in a 2ohm and 4ohm version. I'd say it's the 4ohm version or else that sansui amp would of fried by now.

2x100wrms is about $190, 2x150wrms is around $260 from http://www.advanceae.com.au/

I'd DEFINITLY go for the 2x150 for that $70 more. That sub with 450wrms would fkn crank  ;D ;D

Hope this helps  :)

the power it says on the box is 170 watts, although being a cheap amp that is probably debatable.

The model number of the amp is SM-A1000X

is that rms or pmpo?
if that is peak, then that sub is SEVERELY underpowered, thus the distortion.
but even if it was 170wrms, its still underpowered regardless.

350wrms is a fairly high figure to achieve and maintain good quality.
save up and get something decent!
The amp can be higher power than the sub, thats not a prob, bust means the amp isnt working as hard to drive it. just make sure u set ur gains up right!

Good luck!

Thanks heaps guys...

I'm only new in the whole car scene, in particularly sound setups.

This site has been great, and I have learned a hell of a lot from just reading posts and stuff.

Anyway, i might go for that re-sponse amp from advanceae.

Thanks again,

Ash.

i was thinking of getting the response 4x100wrms from jaycor, there about $450. it bridges to give 2x300wrms. could i  run one sub off two bidged channels providing it with 300wrms and run splits up front of the two remaining channels providing them with 100wrms each? or doesnt it work like that? (sorry dont know much about amps!)

The only problem with that response amp is that u want find many splits that u would be willing to pay for that will take 100wrms. but it is an exelent sub amp for people on a budget

This really depends how much cash you've got for the splits. The jaycar kevlar splits are rated at 80wrms (would take 100wrms nicely) and are only $200 odd.

but your idea about bridging 2 channels for the sub and using the other 2 channels for splits is spot on  8)

yeh 200 for splits sounds about right, i could only find one type of splits that jaycar sells (on their website anyway) and they were only 40wrms... i dunno maybe i'll pay em a visit. thinkin about getting a type r alpine sub, does $300 sound about right for one of them?
