U13
« on: Aug 13, 2005, 07:20PM »
Let me just say, Its a big job to get the motor out a U13 Attesa, it took 2 of us 6 hours.I dont know how we are going to put it back together, its pretty complicated. We still have to get the "gearboxndiff" off the motor then we are heading down to Adelaide jap on Monday to pick up a new "gearboxndiff".  I will put pictures of the blown box up on the net as soon as I can get my camera to work.

dam 6 hours isn't bad, must've had a better setup than me - i had to lift the car with an engine crane and dodgy some stands up etc, plus missing some 'required' tools so some improvisation :)

back of the engine/box is a bit "fun", just make sure you get all the bolts rather than stand there trying to work out why the thing wont budge!

couldn't you remove the gearbox while the engine was still in the car? It looks like it would drop straight out in the Pintara without anything to stop it. You might just have to lower the engine on one side, but I'm sure people have done this before. Good luck anyway, it's a big job. May as well replace any of the other bitches that need doing while the engine is out - ie. if your timing chain is worn, or if your clutch is stuffed.

Have fun mate!

well people say you can do it with the motor in the car, but once you've done it with the engine out you realise it'd be a BIG task. especially the bellhousing->engine bolt that sits down under the starter motor, you'll find yourself feeling around a lot and using assorted extension bars with uni joints and stuff, not fun.

good on you for doing it yourself, be proud! :)

Well the cars all back together and running as good as ever. It took about 6 hours to put it all back in with no major issues. So if this cruise is still on, I'll have both my cars there. If anyone has any questions, I now know a whole lot more about U13 Attesas.

you dont need to take the engine out. the place that did mine had no trouble at all took a guy about 2 hours.. had to custom bend some spanners but it was ou in no time and had the box pull apart ready to put the new gears before you can say limiter launch.

Yeah, but we dont have a hoist or a pit os there was no way we could get in there to do it all. Plus we had to do a few niggling little things like water pump and a few gaskets and things like that.

Yeah my motor stayed in the car when my auto was taken out, left out for a week then a replacement put in.  This was done by an auto gearbox specialist, with a hoist... so a damn sight easier than a home job.  Although the main mechanic said it was a bastard of a job  :-\.

If you think the manual boxes are heavy try the auto AWD boxes!
