i wasnt going to post anything on my new exhaust, but, on my way home, i noticed some interesting things that differs from other people experience. my exhaust is 2.5" from the cat back, with no resonators and a straight thru muffler which i already had..

  • i already had a 2.5" straight thru muffler installed (from a mates rates exhaust that fell through) and suprisingly, even though i now have a 2.5" exhaust with no resonators, the exhaust doesnt seem to be much louder louder if at all. however, there is now a raspy noise when i'm on full throttle between about 3000-4500rpm but that doesnt really bother me.
  • for the last few months, my idle has been quite rough. while idling my car sounded like a cat purring, with the rpm constantly varying 50-100 rpm. my idle is now rock solid. sits on 850rpm and doesnt budge. no more cat pur.
  • torque has increased. yep. thats right. increased. and it kicks in at much a lower rpm now. and dramatically too. it gave the seat of the pants dyno and the gut-o-meter (that feeling you get when you take of quickly) a real surprise. definately thumbs up material. of course, the gut-o-meter gets used to this sensation of more torque over time & it cries for more mods to be made so it can feel queasy again. most other people who have fitted a larger diameter exhaust have experienced losses in torque. this is the part i'm most intrigued about.

so in the end, i'm quite pleased. better idling. more torque, and not overly loud. but i guess everyone here already has an exhaust. so my post is probably pointless. for newbies with stock exhausts, get it done.

Add another thing to do to my list. 2.25" though with a 2.5" cat.
Noss, you've never been bothered by the piggies with your old setup?

sssgtr:  i was never hassled by police with my old setup. after driving tonite a little bit, i think the new exhaust is actually a little louder.

gli_timmy/beefy: i've chirped on the 2nd-3rd change once or twice  ;D

beefy - i have 2.5" from the cat back, not 2.25" the way it all works out is that yes, it connects to the  catalytic converter and replaces the existing exhaust from the cat back.

I think the exhaust headers just about go straight into the cat , the term cat-back exhaust generally means you don't touch anything before the cat converter.

It would be really interesting to see a dyno before and after...
Lisa: Dad, we did something very bad! Homer: Did you wreck the car? Bart: No. Homer: Did you raise the dead? Lisa: Yes. Homer: But the car's okay? Bart & Lisa: Uh-huh. Homer: All right then.

....i dunno ....mine is 2 inch all the way through from headers to tip ....and that made heaps of diff .....low end torque more power all the way through ....i get heaps better fuel economy on freeway driving ....at least a litre below wat i used to get ...prob about 9 litres to 100km .....about the same to more city ...cause with the extra power and noise u tend to gun it more .....hehehehehe ...

i do have headers aswell....still got cat ....and two resonators ....and its loud ...so id be interested to see wat noss's sounds like!!!

chirping is when you get the tiniest bit of wheel spin as you've changed gears, so you change to 2nd, and you get a little chirp, and sometimes in 3rd, you'll get a chirp.

its flex pipe. cat back doesnt include the replacement of the flex pipe. i think its about $300 to upgrade. its there because of the movement of the engine in a front wheel drive car.

yeah, its kinda loud.

resonators will get rid of the raspy sound.
And there's not much I can say
But we miss you every day
And I'm bitter 'cause it's unfair
We'll be drinkin' in the sun
Playing music having fun
Cause one day I'll see you there
