the actual movement is less than 1mm and it's been like that for about 100,000km since I replaced the rack with Chardon's old rack.
It does go through tyres a little quicker than it should, but it's inner wear that's related to excessive negative camber that can't be corrected without slotting the mounting holes on the lower strut/hub assembly; this is because the car is lowered though.
It certainly is a long-lived motor if you take the time to service it regularly.
