My system
« on: Jan 23, 2006, 10:56AM »
Hey all,

Just like to give you a run down of what is/will be going into my car.

First a little background... I was QLD State Representative for Car Audio Australia for the past 4 years. I have been heavily involved in the industry since the start of that and have been involved in competitions both as a competitor and in an organisational role.

If there has been a reasonable sound off since 2001, I was probably there. Used to compete in a little N13 Pulsar, but it was written off thanks to a Prado up my ass... So then came the U13! Decided to turn it more into a Sound Quality car rather than an SPL machine like previous.

After many systems in the U13 I started working for a car audio store, which then led me into Alpine as its our biggest brand. I sold off all my gear which was all high end components.

I am about half way through installing the new system, which consists of the following:

IVA-D310   DVD, touch screen, optical out
PXA-H701   5.1 Surround processor with full EQ

2x MRV-F345   V12 4 Channel amplifiers
1x MRD-M1005   Monoblock for sub

SPX-17MB     6.5" Midbass for front stage
F#1 5" Splits     F#1 midrange and tweeter
SPR-17LP     Type R 6" 2-ways for rear shelf
DLC-175     DDLinear 6" 2-ways for the boot lid

Most of the boot has been done. Chose to do a stealthy setup with simple install and carpet. Will put some build up pictures soon. All that's left is to intall all the front stage...

Sounds really good, i'll be waiting for those pics. Also would like to hear your thoughts on the quality of your setup as i'm considering getting a new stereo with mostly alpine gear.

Have to get some more off my camera, then try to find somewhere to upload them.

Making the kick panels now for the tweeters now, I have been sanding for hours on end!  :'(

yeah, that link works, hten just gotta click on the other links.... found em tho!

ur boot install looks uber-clean! nice and simple, yet effective imo! the discrete little handle to the spare wheel is a good touch! i'm assuming its like a trap door?! was thinkin somethin like that for my boot install, but then i realised that a) it'd end up costing me too much (as i was gonna get a 12" JL sub and another JL amp  :P); and b) i wouldn't be able to cart me mtb bike in the boot  :P

that 4th pic where u hav carpeted the underside of the boot and hav spaces for what appears to be 2 6" speakers? u gonna put more speakers there?

its comin along nicely man, how bout sum pics at nite with the lights in the boot on?

Thanks mate :)

Yeah I will get some night shots soon. And yes, the boot lid will hold a set of DDLinear 6" 2-ways. Just so when I go to a sound off people will hear the music I like :P

Thank buddy. I will most likely not even use the Type X 6" midbass in the system now. After hearing how good the F#1's are it's very hard to justify the trouble to put them in. So really the only X gear I have is the sub...

Jezus!! Thats a damn fine looking tweeter pod setup u got there!  ;D

Just, are they that effective for SQ to point sideways? I thought that aiming them more towards the drivers ears would be more effective (if you have a lag generator for the closest tweeter)...

Other than that, they look damn schmick!

U use fiberglass or did u bog it up and sand like crazy??

The Nissubishda will live....

I sat in there for ages trying to find the best position, in actual fact it was on the door, on the black part of the U13 door where the window winder is, facing TOWARDS the window slightly.

I didn't want to cut my doors open plus the tweeters are massive... So went with the next position. This spot offered the best comprimise. I do have a "lag generator" or Time Allignment as we call it. Since the split have their own channel from a 4 channel amp, the tweeter can be delayed seperately from the mid driver too :)

And yes, they were bogged and sanded :D

I think your able to have a seperate delay through the crossover to from memory.

How do you find the D310? I was thinking about getting one but im not convinced totally if its worth the money.

I love the D310... There are not many screens out there that look as good as it does, is as feature packed as it is, or thats easier to use. The JVC unit which sells for a similar price, however, is probably its closest rival and in fact has more features than the D310.

I run the PXA-H701 anyways, so I bypass most of the features...

I love the tweeters mounted in the pillars.  Reason I never got splits in my bluebird, because I wanted the stereo to look stock on the inside.

That looks stock and would be perfect (for me) if the tweeters were all black.

Great work mate.

Sorry guys... I don't have any pics of the tweeter pods because they were whipped up one arvo at work, and I didn't have my camera on me.

It's actually quite easy to do, these were done in less than 2 hours... Just have to make a tweeter mount (cut out a round piece of mdf or strong cardboard to fit around the tweeter), hot glue it into the correct position you would like. Then get some automotive bog of some variety, and wack it all around the mount to suit the shape you desire. Sand, sand and sand again. Sand the panel too, as this will give the glue a strong base to contact with the vynal.

Then cover in vynal which is self explanatory. And thats it!

If anyone in Brisbane would like to see it in person, or ask me some questions, I will be at Harry's Diner this Saturday for a Sound Off from 4pm onwards. PM me if you want my number to contact me on the day if you wish. You can listen to it in the flesh also :)
