fuel pump question for supercharger
« on: Nov 14, 2013, 08:25PM »
hi guys, just a quick question about fuel pumps fora ka24e supercharger project. i did have a walbo 255 installed but it shorted out a couple of weeks ago,so i had to put the old one in. but what i wanted to know is do i really need a bigger fuel pump to run a supercharger setup running 8psi with 460cc injectors? i just dont want to spend money if i dont have to.

Easy to find out your fuel pump capacity.

Disconnect the *Return line* after the fuel pressure regulator. Before it goes back into the tank, and put it into a 2 liter juice bottle. Hardire the pump to a good 12V source, voltage has a lot to do with performance of the fuel pump so make sure its getting a solid 12v-13v for the test. and record the running voltage across the pump terminals, whatever it is, as part of your data.

With the fuel pump on any bypassed fuel will run into the 2 liter bottle. Is it important you accurately measure the amount of time it takes for this bottle to fill up. With this data you can work out the flow rate of your pump at rail pressure and form here you can work out maximum supportable horsepower.

Important relationships to note:
Less voltage at the pump = less flow
More rail pressure = less flow

If you do this please post the data in here so we can all use it ;)
I drive like i screw..... illegally =D... wait O.o WHAT?? O.O

Ok, i haven't flow tested the old pump yet, but i will. I've just been using some online fuel pump calculator's to try and find a ball park figure of what flow I should need to run the 8psi and 460cc injectors. I used this; http://www.deatschwerks.com/resources/fuel-calculators/fuel-pump-calculator, and worked off 200hp.

The result was 110 l/hr @ 51.5 psi. Does this sound right???

i hard wired the fuel pump and measured the the mount of fuel it pumped in 1 min. i did this 3 times and it was pretty close to being 2L/min +- 20ml. so i can pump about 120l/hr, it will be pushing the limits for what i want. unfourfuntly i dont have anything to measure the fuel pressure :(
