opinions on wheels and suspension
« on: Jun 26, 2004, 10:46PM »
Yeah me have $$$$$$ Just wondering about a few things hope ya's can help. I am buying hyperfang mags but am undecided on size. Either 16 or 17's. Just wondering if the 17's will scrape and make it too low with a set of 1.5 inch lowered king springs? Would this be worth it for the increase in road prescence than 16's ?

Also i am undecided over suspension. Are munroes good or what some people say they are good some people say they are shit. I wouldnt know coz the best handling car i have owned is a sigma with 16 year shockers. I was thinking KYB's up front and munroes at rear? How much better are KYB over munroes is it worth it for the price?
                                    cheers

17s are nice if u can afford them. as long as the offset is good then u will be right.

The KYBs are much better for the extra money personally. With 17s in sure u would lower it with 1.5 inches. I have seen it done alot. Any lower and i think ud need a gaurd roll or lip. I have also heard bad things about munroes but personally have neva used them. Defiantly go the king springs but its really up to u on the shocks. Id go KYB for sure.

The wheels are going on finance anyway so price aint a an issue for 12 months. What do you mean by the offset is this a problem or something? Coz a guy at complete audio said something about etting camber kits as well with the 17's? Whats up with this. So you still ahve descent clearance with 17's and 1.5inch lowered springs coz if so 17's it is. U know how much more KYB's are?

Crap also i assume the 17's will amke my speedo largely inaccurate even with the lower profile rubber is this so?

lol camber kit = spacers. totally illegal but commonly used.

i think u can get a full set of kybs and see change from 500.

17s will make speedo slightly inaccuracte unless u get low profile tyres. think about 14 with fat tyres and 17s with low tyres. might work out to be the same. but mioght put it 5 km/h out.

even with the spacers it should fit. im lowered 1.5 inchs and 16s and i got heaps of room

when it comes to wheel offset, u need something to make it sit out furthur to look fatter. ive got 16's tempest.  with a 25offset (i think, off the top of my head). alot of people think mine are 17's, but they aint. 17's shouldnt rub, and will look slightly better, but not heaps better. just dont get a offset out of the 20's ie 35, cuz no matter 16 or 17 inch size they are they wont look good at all. ive got 1.5 lowered kings with kyb all round, and it handles AWSOME. id definatly go kyb over monroe. camber kit are cool but $$$ to fit and $$$ on tyre wear

I found that KYB were actually cheaper for my car.
About 50bucks cheaper!
I am definatly goin, KYB, Whiteline etc...
What other brands are there?
besides Monroe and Pedders LOL,

I have 15" 45 profile tyres on my S12, the stock rims and tyres are 14" 70 profile so i have actually down sized in the tyre profile more than what i have up sized in rim size! LOL :( oh well, time for sum Drift Style Rims! ;D

u have to go 25 offset on the r31 skyline simply because it will rub otherwise. sure u can go 5 or ten either way but the offset is 25. U wouldnt fit 17s with an offset of 35 and lowered on your car though. it would rub on the inside springs. I have 5mmm spacers on my front as the offset on them is 5 off so it makes it so they fit with ease. although they are illegal dammit

possibly. The rears on mine fit fine just the front rub abit with no spacer. the mags could have an offset of 30 or sumthing then

yep that would be it, i thought they were the same. spacers are fine though, as long as there is enuf thread on the studs left. u should put em on the rear to make em sit out more. it might look better

I forked out the dosh. 1000 for pedders springs and shocks fitted, 2000 for the 17inch rims with rubber 225/45.

No i will sbe able to stand behind my car and say mmmmm tough.

I am a bit concerned about the lowereing height though. The guy said the springs at the back are almost the lowest legal limit is this going to be too low? It's just that 3K is a far wad of cash and not being able to see what u are paying for is a bit.....well not good.

Yeah i got them fitted it was a bit dear, but i couldnt be stuffed stuffing around and they seemed like they knew what they are on about. Dont give me that shit that pedders are rebadged munroes either coz i aint listening. I is hoping they are all well and good. I wish i found out how low the back is being lowered. I am a silly silly boy.

I got em from bridgestone at modbury. Paid cash for suspension and got wheels on interest free. They gave me good service and stuff and i get free tyre rotations and wheel alignments. But still yes i admit i am stupid and probably paid about 300-400 to much.
Whatya's reckon? Still its good to get it all organised and it should look pretty sweet dumped on its arse with fat rubber ;D. No sliding around corners in the wet by accident any more.

sounds good. although 1000 buck for pedders gear isnt wat id call a bargain, but who knows maybe the prices vary depending on which state ur in ??. 2g for 17's sound good, especially if u got a decent brand of rubber, so many ppl brag how that got theres for such and such price but they have the scumest brand inport rubber that has as much grip as a wodden wagon wheel. did they put bumper stops on?

I rang TRANSPORT SA, and they told me what the lowest i could lower my car was,
its measured from the centre of your wheel to the start of the gaurd,
mine was 350mm MAX at da front and 345mm MAX at da rear.
C my suspension has sagged hell!!! I Mean heaps!
so i measured what drop i should do, and
"standard" my front is 390mm and rear is 360mm!
The rear has sagged more u can tell that by lookin at it but now i  can c by how much in mm's.
But yea, because its sagged i cant really tell how much i should lower it!!!!!!!!
i will prolly stick with 1.5inches all the way round, or does that seem not enough to u guyz? lol ???
