well from what ive been told, the engine mounts have sagged and that has caused the input/output bearings to wear out and become particularly noisy esp when idling with the clutch out and under hard acceleration in 1st and 2nd. the gearbox itself still shifts fine and drives fine its just really noisey!

have u done anything like this before?

Alright, the engine mounts sagging have nothing to do with gearbox bearing wear. From what youve just said it does sound like a input shaft bearing especially if it doesnt make noise in gear foot on clutch ( input shaft not spinning). I have done gearbox bearings before but highly recomend not pulling it apart unless your familiar with how they work. Before you jump into anything as it will be extremely costly to take it somewhere to have done, try changing the oil, or even check the oil. might quiten it down.

yeah i have tried changing the oil and putting transaxle/gearbox and diffrential conditioner in it and it didnt really do alot :(

*siggghhh* i really cant afford $1000+ for a new gearbox, how much at a guess would it cost to change the bearing?

If you know someone that can work on the box the bearing itself isnt that expensive.

I had my box rebuilt with new bearings and linkages that set me back around 850-900 i think.

Id say it would cost over $1000 to have the gearbox removed, pulled apart, parts replaced ect. The labour cost is whats gunna kill you. Id try and find another gearbox, maybe somone is wrecking one. Is it a CA or KA? Are you able to change the gearbox yourself?

If you cant do any of the work yourself your in a bit of a situation.

I will add to my post that i removed the box and took it to the shop, and reinstalled the box myself which saved me a lot of money.

im thinking i probably could remove and replace the box myself if i had a weekend. i just cant believe how expensive it is to replace 2 little bearings  :-\

might have to wait and find a 2nd hand box in SA and just put that in if it is going to cost $850

my car would probably be going to the wreckers for that much  :'(

oh and the gearbox is KA

Yeah man, let me take it home over a weekend though. its not really a 10 minute job. Do you have a workshop manual? Cash job.

Download the service manual from this site. It will have everything you need in there.
