after market central locking
« on: Oct 19, 2014, 03:11PM »
I put an engine imobilising alarm into my son's TRX.

It has an output wire to send a signal to the central locking to lock or unlock the doors with the alarm remote being pressed to turn on or off etc.

The TRX doesn't have a central locking or a wire loom to the doors, but I was wondering about installing one of those generic $45 (from Supa Cheap or Auto Barn etc)  door lock actuators.  I would take a 12v line to the unit as well as the actuator signal wire from the alarm so that the door can be unlocked with the alarm etc.

I was only going to install to the drivers door as that is the most practical solution - so will only be installing one door unit.

Has anyone done an after market fitting of a door lock actuator that can recommend a brand or model to install?  Is it a easy job or one filled with much cursing and gnashing of teeth?

thanks!

for the central locking the best bet is to get a 4 door kit like this one

http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=LR8812&form=CAT2&SUBCATID=1041#5

it comes with with a controller that connects to the two trigger wires on the immobilisers, similar to the super cheap kits but don't have the receiver and remotes as the immobilisers already has them.
it also has mounting hardware for the actuators, clamps for the lock bars, connecting rods and wiring loom. every thing you should need.

also there is a bit of info on this page if you have any issues

thanks.

I did a search for central locking before starting a new thread and didn't see the page you have linked - but now after searching again there are quite a few pages... maybe I had a spelling mistake in my search query?  (Shouldn't let old people on computers without wearing glasses....)

I will have a good read of the threads and maybe have a go. Certainly makes life easier to have the doors unlock by remote!
