today i learnt a hughe lesson as i cooked my motor because i hadnt replaced dizzy that had an oil leak on my 92 pintara hatch ka24e.this is my first car and we had fixed all oil leaks except dizzy (run out of cash) it had leaked hot oil onto a coolant hose and burnt a hole thru it in turned overheated and possibly cracked head =( i have a spare pintara with a ca20 in it but if anyone knows of someone in cairns with another ka24 would be appreciated. or someone needing parts in my area as i have a complete spare pinny to recover costs of another motor.

I wouldn't blame the dizzy... blame the guy that drove the car as it overheated without noticing that it was overheating ;) :P

The internal radial oil seal on the distributor shaft, short of imploding into tiny pieces, won't let through a sufficient volume of oil to cause an oil leak as bad as you are saying.
Annoying as oil leaks from the distributor are, disassembly / reassembly of the distributor to replace the radial oil seal and bearing isn't recommended unless you really know what you are doing.

Even when you THINK you know what you're doing, it's still advised not to do this yourself, that's what i'd say anyway!

i feel compelled to mention that: I've noticed the same on mine. The oil leaks slowly from the dizzy and onto the pneumatic lines and, more critically, the coolant line that join the bypass line around the back of the engine. Causing the rubber to swell and over time become weak, leading to premature failure. Eventually splitting and letting your coolant out. That or the pneumatic lines slip off and you get an air leak. If it was an easy fix id definitely fix mine but honestly CBF pulling the dizzy, for now i just keep a close eye on the components beneath it.

pneumatic... mate, your engine bay doesn't have a friggin air compressor in it...
Don't worry about the oil leaking for your dizzy, better out than in!

lol, budge got schooled :D
Anything where air is used as the medium for actuating mechanical devices (i.e. swirl control valve actuator / fuel pressure regulator), it technically should be referred to as pneumatic. But I'm too lazy to type pneumatic when i call them vac lines. :P

Hummm, I thought you were referring to coolant hoses being pneumatic.
As usual, didn't read properly!
