hey all i have this old amp just lyin round doin nothin it has no wiring for it............

so heres the question it is a sherwood (dont flame me)unknown year .......XAT-120.....2 way 60watts rms per channel.......@ 0.1% thd???, into 4 ohms......so is it worth buyin a wiring kit 4 it or buyin a new 1????

*ive had lyin round 4 ages nd picked up 4 $10 at a swap meet !!!!it works!!!!

jay,
you will need the following....
a power wire, control wire, and negative.
speaker wire and RCA's

you can buy amp wiring kits for round $50 from auto barn and such, but i dont think this amp would have enough power for a kit...?

could just go out and buy a kit anyway, then when you upgrade your audio system, you wont hafta rn bugger wires....

just a thought, but yes you can use it i have some left overs from my install...

It's usually cheaper and easier to buy a basic wiring kit rather than individual wiring.

You don't need any amount of 'power' to make a wiring kit viable, it's in a kit so it's more convenient to buy, as opposed to buying each separate component of that kit.

fair enough, are there advantages/disadvantages to "over"powering an amp...

say, running a 400W amp off an 800W wiring kit?

No issues at all. All it means is the amp won't be maximg out the current draw of the wiring. It's always better to give yourself some headroom when running wiring so later down the track of you do get a bigger amp then your all set.
