u12 heating issues
« on: Sep 20, 2011, 11:21PM »
hey guys my car seems to be heating pretty fucking fast lately, drive for 20 or so minutes and the heating guage is above half and the front mounted thermos cut in, they are the only thing stopping it from boiling. What could the problem be ?

Stuck thermostat? Might not be opening and hence overheating.

I had the same issue except my temp gauge sensor packed up on me as well.
What kranz said. Or water pump might have packed up, but thermostat is more likely.

Well yours is working fine since it's telling you it's hot. It's just the sensor responsible for being all "hai mr temp needle, you need to move now ^__^" but FWIW it's just before the coolant outlet pipe at the back of the block, near the plenum/intake mani. There's two plugs, one with a red cap (if you remove this your fans turn on automatically), and the other is the temp gauge sensor.

Check you don't have a blocked radiator? If you changed the waterpump, I'm guessing that you flushed the radiator etc...
