earthing amps.
« on: Aug 26, 2003, 01:08PM »
with my stereo i have 2 amps.. i have an 4 gauge cable coming from the battery which then splits close to the amps into 2 8 gauge cables. the grounding cable for both amps is then once again, 4 gauge. is this going to cause problems? some people say grounding cables should be the same as what goes to the amp, other say it should be the same as whats on the battery terminal regardless of what it splits down to..

any advice?

The ground cable must be of equal size or bigger than the input (+ve) to the amp.
(reason because the amp must be able to dissipate all power, otherwise u start to get heat build up, straining on parts, etc etc..)

I would get a better ground cable connected to your battery also if ur still using the stock one.

I changed mine a while back, easy as piss!

yeah thats all cool guys, i just wanted to clarify it as i'd read different things in different places..

re-adjusted the gains on my amps tonite.. got rid of 90% of the noise from the system.. i'm pretty pleased.
