well i just got a LG 42px5d today.  Turned it on, it started with the auto tune.  Once that was done i started getting all the best channels, and then the picture started to break up a bit, and then the screen just went to heaps of thin vertical lines, could hear sound on some channels.  I'm sort of thinking that it might be stuffed.

Could be something wrong with the tuner.
Not 100% familar with the lg's but does that have a built in HD tuner? or is it analogue?

Try putting another source through it (DVD) and is the picture ok?

has a built in tuner.  tried a dvd, sound is fine, but no picture, lines are still there, but a lot less flickering.

Check your video lead or if uses component or SVHS, the cables could be fucked.
Your car may be able to go faster.
But I can go any where. except into a garage, underground carpark, bridge...

2 sticks and manual locking hubs. have to get out to drive it around

If it did it on the tuner (which doesnt need video leads) and its also doing it on an Aux input id be inclined to think there is a problem with the plasma itself.

Is the audio ok using the tuner?

You didn't think he might have it connected to set top box.

has a built in tuner.  tried a dvd, sound is fine, but no picture, lines are still there, but a lot less flickering.

That led me to believe he is using the in-built tuner.

The fact that both the DVD and Tuner (or STB) if thats the case are giving the same resulting picture would also make me think that video leads wouldnt be the issue unless the two are connected and one is faulty. But your right it might have been video leads, just from the information i was given didnt suggest that as a problem.
