dash rattle
« on: Jan 3, 2016, 12:38AM »
i have a 1991 U12[USA] with a upper dash rattle, at idle in drive...its rattling on the passenger side upper dash under the top dash pad....is the upper dashpad difficult to remove so i can hopefully add some foam tape to whatever is rattling under there???    we used to own another U12 which had the same annoying rattle.  THX,Mike

there is a copy of the factory service manual here: http://www.antrx.com/smf/index.php/topic,7177.0.html

it's for the ford corsair but it's the same car. it should have instructions in there in the interior section. i can't comment on if it will be easy or not though.

The bolts under the trim panel for the windscreen demister ducts will be loose, gently unclip the trim panel and the bolts will be exposed so you can tighten all of them.

thanks SSS...i'll give that a try for starters.....if your sitting in the passenger seat and place your hand on dash pad just to the left of the right-most air vent , you can feel  the rattle under it....i'm guessing its part of the HVAC is to close.

how are your engine mounts?
the words "race car" spelled backward still spell "race car"?

Pedro666.....i looked at them and they all seemed decent....if you put a glass of water on the engine, you wouldnt lose a drop do to shaking..very smooth...i was thinking it might be the top of the   glove box  against the underside of the dash pad....my wife says to just make the radio louder ...it sounds/feels like Morse code  LOL

I do like that solution, your wife is awesome at automotive solutions, trouble is if you turn it up enough you may end up with the dash in your lap..
