Building a custom sub box
« on: Dec 10, 2005, 06:36PM »
Hey all you doof doof peoples. I was just thought about building a custom box for my car (the vl). The only problem is that in the boot it has this gay little step thing. So what i was thinking was to seal a part of the boot off and use that part to make a big ass box and put ports through my parcel tray. I'll try to get some pics up soon about what i mean. For the mean while has anyone got any other ideas?? ;)

that would be pretty shit house. I would like to see you calculate the volume on that. Just make yourself a box that fits right into the back, that way it will be quite shallow, meaning it should fit onto the step, then you won't sacrifice your boot. Don't forget that every sub has a recommended box volume. A ported will need double that of a sealed box in most cases.

you could build the top of the box using the standard mdf style, but fibreglass the bottom, that way it will be a perfect match to the "gay step thing", also make sure that the box is close to the dimensions recommended by the manufacturer. ask SSStick, im sure he could give you some tips/hand with it.

Yep, Fibreglassing is the way to go, and its not as hard as it sounds either
