Title: temp problem
Post by: tiger76 on May 14, 2013, 05:07PM
hi, im just joined
ive got a heating problem
my temp gauge goes above high.
I think I don't have a blown head gasket cos there is no oil in radiator, or leaking oil. and bonnet is only warm to touch
and no steam coming up under the bonnet
goes straight to high within 3 mins
any ideals? thinking temp sensor but which one can cause this

my drive is 03/90 pintara t u12

Do you have a seized thermostat by any chance?

I highly doubt you will be able to notice if your engine is overheating or not given the temperature of the bonnet. Steam is also a very bad way of confirming your engine is running hot, aside from the obvious..

Try cleaning the engine temperature sensor, for the cluster - this should be located on the driver side coolant passage on the intake, right near the head. Next to it you will find the temp sensor for the ECU. The one you want to clean is a single wire connector.

If that doesn't seem too bad/clean, try removing your thermostat and placing it in 100ÂșC to see if the mechanism opens.

Does it go straight to high on the gauge after 3 mins from cold?

Are both electric fans on the radiator coming on when this happens?

If they don't, it'll be the small temperature sender that is causing the gauge to display a temperature too high.

didn't think to see if fans are coming mate....
no warning lights or ecu/ecm light coming on to state there's a prob at all, which is sort of good
this is the first guess you could say car with a comp to it....
I'm an old commodore driver...lol
the last Nissan I had was back in 1999/2000 pulsar n12 which was around late 80's early  90's model I think

when its stop raining in melb sss ill check the fans and reply ya or nah for it

thanks Roy
